One expert reveals data findings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MotoGP\u2019s 850cc bikes, which are being introduced in 2027, are set to be up to 2.5 seconds slower than current machinery, according to Loris Capirossi.<\/p>\n<p>The 2027 season will see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MotoGP<\/a> go through its most radical regulation change in well over a decade, as it moves away from the 1000cc engine formula introduced in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>MotoGP will move to 850cc engines from 2027, while outlawing ride height devices and stripping back aerodynamics.<\/p>\n<p>As well as changes to the bikes, MotoGP will also bring in a new official tyre supplier in Pirelli, who will take over from Michelin.<\/p>\n<p>The idea behind the rule change is to improve safety and make the on-track spectacle better.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>The current generation of MotoGP bikes are the fastest in history, with lap records falling at almost every circuit in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>From 2027, however, Dorna safety chief and former racer Loris Capirossi says lap times will increase by up to 2.5s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe motorcycles will be up to 2.5 seconds slower,\u201d he said on the Mig Babol podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be just like in 2007, when the 800cc bikes were introduced [to replace the 990s].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, it\u2019s normal for them to be slower.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe data collected by engineers at the manufacturers involved in the initial simulations indicates that the motorcycles in 2027 will be 1.5 to 2.5 seconds slower than the current ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main reasons for this are the lack of spoilers and wings, as well as the 850cc engine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Capirossi added: \u201cIn my opinion, history will repeat itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, things will usually move more slowly: the regulations were adapted precisely for this reason, but with the next stages of development, they will speed up again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several manufacturers, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/red-bull-ktm-factory-racing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KTM<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/repsol-honda-team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Honda<\/a>, have already revealed they have tested 850cc engine prototypes this winter.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Others are sure to follow suit in the coming months ahead of the first proper 2027 bikes hitting the track.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to our MotoGP Newsletter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MotoGP\u2019s 850cc bikes, which are being introduced in 2027, are set to be up to 2.5 seconds slower&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":397659,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[572],"tags":[64,63,5745,806,805,803,804,85],"class_list":{"0":"post-397658","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-motosport","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-motogp","11":"tag-motor","12":"tag-motor-sports","13":"tag-motosport","14":"tag-motosports","15":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/397658","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=397658"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/397658\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/397659"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=397658"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=397658"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=397658"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
