Pressure is mounting for UltraEdge to be introduced next summer after another DRS controversy caused tempers to flare<\/a> on the last day of the Ashes<\/a> series finale.<\/p>\n

England thought they had dismissed Jake Weatherald on review just before midday on Thursday when Snicko showed a murmur as Brydon Carse\u2019s delivery passed his bat en route to the wicketkeeper.<\/p>\n

But third umpire Kumar Dharmasena advised umpire Ahsan Raza to stay with his on-field decision of not out, seemingly unconvinced the small spike had been caused by Weatherald\u2019s bat.<\/p>\n

Booing rang out from the large contingent of English fans in the SCG\u2019s Victor Trumper Stand.<\/p>\n

England captain Ben Stokes had to calm Carse down as the bowler demanded an explanation from Raza, before seeking clarity himself about the non-wicket with the umpire.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t see any reason why this has been given not out. See the murmur or the spike or whatever you want to call it,\u201d England great Stuart Broad said on Seven.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe England players are not understanding this. They\u2019ve been on the back end of a few rough decisions throughout this series, with the technology letting them down.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrydon Carse is a competitor and he will get stuck in. That\u2019s why he\u2019s played five Test matches.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really understand why the frustration is there with Jake Weatherald. He\u2019s not going to just wander off and give his Test career away.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the technology that I think has frustrated England.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Carse and Stokes made contact with the umpire, the latter after being cleared for putting his arm around Marnus Labuschagne during a confrontation earlier in the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah can understand the frustration actually there from Ben Stokes,\u201d Ricky Ponting said on Seven.<\/p>\n

Weatherald was eventually out for 34 just before the lunch break, caught by Matthew Potts off the bowling of Josh Tongue.<\/p>\n

Thursday\u2019s incident was only the latest DRS drama this Ashes series.<\/p>\n

Snicko\u2019s operators admitted a failure in the technology allowed Alex Carey to survive an appeal for caught behind in the third Test at Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

The wicketkeeper went on to make 34 more runs and raise his bat for a century that helped seal Australia\u2019s series victory.<\/p>\n

Later in that match, Englishman Jamie Smith survived a close Snicko call, before then being given out caught behind in similar circumstances a few overs later.<\/p>\n

After the third Test in Adelaide, Australian veteran Mitchell Starc insisted the ICC should be responsible for funding technology.<\/p>\n

In Australia, that responsibility currently lies with official broadcasters and Snicko is a cheaper alternative to UltraEdge – the technology used in most other countries.<\/p>\n

Both technologies are accredited by the ICC.<\/p>\n

In England, similar technology is funded by the sport\u2019s governing body, the ECB.<\/p>\n
