The film follows a paranormal podcast host who moves into her dying mother\u2019s house to be her primary caregiver. When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural noises, she realizes the woman\u2019s story mirrors her own.<\/p>\n

Sound plays a vital role in inducing chills in the new trailer below, fitting for a podcaster who\u2019s trapped in an aural nightmare.<\/p>\n

Nina Kiri (\u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d) stars in the film, which marks the feature debut of writer-director\u00a0Ian Tuason. Tuason will next tackle the eight installment<\/a> in the Paranormal Activity franchise.<\/p>\n

Kris Holden-Ried (\u201cThe Umbrella Academy\u201d),\u00a0Mich\u00e8le Duquet (The Virgin Suicides),\u00a0Keana Lyn Bastidas (\u201cThe Hardy Boys\u201d), and\u00a0Jeff Yung (The Shrouds) round out the cast.<\/p>\n

Joe Lipsett came away from the film\u2019s Fantasia premiere a massive fan of the scares. He wrote in his 4.5-skull review<\/a>, \u201cI can\u2019t remember the last time a movie made every hair on my body stand up, but undertone got me good.\u201d Of the film\u2019s use of sound, he writes, \u201cIt\u2019s more than that, though; more so than any other recent horror film,\u00a0The Undertone lives and dies on how sound and silence are used. And it is used\u00a0incredibly well.\u201d<\/p>\n
