Ben Dwarshuis was the Sixers\u2019 chief destroyer, snaring 4-13 off 3.5 overs after not being deployed until the ninth over.<\/p>\n
Commonly used as a new-ball and death bowler, Dwarshuis was able to come on later as a result of crucial early wickets from Ben Manenti (1-15) and Joel Davies (2-15).<\/p>\n
A chase of such small magnitude can be tricky for the batting team and Stars\u2019 captain Marcus Stoinis tried to lift his side through the scalps of Babar Azam and Sam Curran.<\/p>\n
But the Sixers ultimately had too much firepower and depth to be held short of the Stars\u2019 total \u2013 claiming victory with 17 balls and six wickets to spare.<\/p>\n
After being undefeated from four matches, the Stars have opened the door for two teams to take their spot in fourth and set up a mouthwatering Melbourne Derby on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
A key trend in all of the Stars\u2019 results \u2013 and the BBL season \u2013 has been the toss.<\/p>\n
Every captain has elected to chase this season and no team batting first has won a game involving the Stars.<\/p>\n

The Big Show is in a rare slump.<\/p>\n
Glenn Maxwell is battling for the Melbourne Stars, having passed two just once in five innings this season.<\/p>\n
Maxwell arrived at the wicket with the Stars 4-97 off 13.4 overs and needing another one of his trademark innings to shift momentum.<\/p>\n
The Stars strategically took the power surge an over after Maxwell got in but the tactic was made in vain after he skied his fourth ball.<\/p>\n
Maxwell has made scores of 2, 39 not out, 1, 1 and 1 so far this season.<\/p>\n

WELCOME BACK, SAM<\/p>\n
The Melbourne Stars were offering no pageantry to Sam Curran in his first Twenty20 game back at the MCG.<\/p>\n
Curran was met by the best of Stars\u2019 openers Sam Harper and Tom Rogers in his first Big Bash League over, going for the most expensive set of the innings (20).<\/p>\n
The short-format specialist, and brother of injured Melbourne Star Tom, last played a Twenty20 at the MCG in England\u2019s World Cup win over Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Curran was named player of the match and tournament at the end of that game for his 3-12 off four overs.<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t have as much luck this time round with the ball, finishing by some margin the most uneconomical Sixer (0-31 off two), but chimed in with the bat (17 off 21).<\/p>\n

SIXERS STAR\u2019S ELITE SHOWING<\/p>\n
The Sixers spin duo of Joel Davies and Ben Manenti were very impressive on a turning MCG wicket, but it was Ben Dwarshuis that stole the show on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The talented seamer took four wickets and conceded only 13 runs in his 3.5 overs, with two of those being at the end of the innings.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old has become a key figure for the Sixers in recent seasons, taking wickets while also scoring crucial lower-order runs.<\/p>\n
Two of his four scalps were also top order players, including Marcus Stoinis, who was unable to get Dwarshuis away which saw Haris Rauf come to the crease only to knick off for a golden duck.<\/p>\n
From there, Liam Hatcher was unable to get him away and was also dismissed for one run from five balls, with his other wicket being the talented Blake MacDonald.<\/p>\n
