It has been more than a year since there was any talk of it, but the long-rumoured live-action \u201cStar Trek\u201d comedy series is still in development.<\/p>\n

Co-created by filmmaker Justin Simien and \u201cStar Trek: Lower Decks\u201d actress Tawny Newsome, the series was first announced in 2024 at San Diego Comic-Con.<\/p>\n

Appearing at the New York City premiere of the new \u201cStar Trek: Starfleet Academy\u201d series, Newsome explained that the scripts had been completed and formally submitted to the studio.<\/p>\n

She adds that they were well received internally, but no official green light has yet been handed out. She tells TrekMovie<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conversations that I have had is, \u2018Hey, we finished writing it,\u2019 and everyone said, \u2018Yep, we love it.\u2019 And then we turned it in, and then it was Christmas\u2026. The business is in an interesting place right now\u2026 Who knows?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so proud of the work that Justin and I did. We love our scripts. We\u2019re ready for someone to just decide. If it\u2019s meant to be, it\u2019ll be. If not, I\u2019ll go do something else. But we love what we wrote.<\/p>\n

We had really great partners at the studio. I know it is rare to come away from notes with studio folks sometimes and be like, happy and be like, \u2018Oh my god, that was a great idea.\u2019 They really helped us shape it in a way that still felt like us.<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s just up to whatever creature is in the sky that controls all this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The previous description indicated that the series would follow Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.<\/p>\n

Newsome previously clarified that the resort planet isn\u2019t Risa, and is a non-Federation world.
