Watch all the action from the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, including the Surf Coast Classic and Elite Road Races LIVE and FREE on SBS and SBS On Demand from January 28-February 1.Some of the best cyclists from across Australia and the globe will descend on Victoria for the Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, a week-long celebration with multiple cycling events and culminating in a one-day classic which kick-starts the UCI WorldTour season.<\/p>\n

Designed by former Australian pro Scott Sunderland and 2011 Tour de France winner Cadel Evans – the race is Australia’s only one-day WorldTour event.<\/p>\n

Starting and finishing in Geelong, the riders travel down along the coastline before turning inland en route to the short and sharp Challambra climb, a gruelling ascent that forms part of the finishing circuit. <\/p>\n

In what will be the 10th edition of the race in 2026, there has only been one Australian winner of the men’s race – with Jay McCarthy taking it out in 2018, but Swiss Mauro Schmid brought Australian team Jayco-Alula their first victory in last year’s edition.<\/p>\n

It’s a different story in the women’s race – with Rachel Neylan, Chloe Hosking and Amanda Spratt all winners of early editions of the race. New Zealander Ally Wollaston triumphed in a bunch sprint in 2025. As well as the elite men’s and women’s races, the week will kick off with the men’s and women’s Surf Coast Classic – a UCI ProSeries event that takes riders from the town of Lorne to the finish in Torquay.<\/p>\n

With a flatter and faster route, the Surf Coast Classic has been won by notable men’s sprinters Sam Bennett, Biniam Girmay and Tobias Lund Andresen.<\/p>\n

And the Great Ocean Road Race festivities wouldn’t be complete without the TAC People’s Ride<\/a>, which gives amateur riders -from all across the Australian cycling community – the opportunity to ride alongside Cadel Evans himself on the same roads the elite riders will duel on.
