As the new Formula 1 season approaches with Isack Hadjar now officially partnering Max Verstappen following Yuki Tsunoda’s axing, it’s time to settle the debate: who has been Max Verstappen’s greatest Red Bull team-mate?<\/p>\n
Since arriving at Milton Keynes early in the 2016 F1 season, Verstappen has worked alongside six different partners.<\/p>\n
Daniel Ricciardo remains the only team-mate to genuinely match Verstappen’s pace on a regular basis. Across 58 races together, the Australian secured four wins to Verstappen’s five, with their head-to-head qualifying battle remarkably close at 24-34 in the Dutchman’s favour.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Their partnership delivered consistent constructors’ championship challenges, finishing second in 2016 and third in both 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n
Sergio Perez boasts the strongest trophy cabinet from his four-year stint, directly contributing to Red Bull’s back-to-back constructors’ titles in 2022 and 2023. The Mexican’s five race victories included memorable wins at Monaco and Azerbaijan, where he became the only multiple winner at the Baku street circuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
His finest hour came in 2021 Abu Dhabi, where his defensive masterclass against Lewis Hamilton proved pivotal in securing Verstappen’s maiden championship.<\/p>\n
Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon both struggled to match the benchmark, though neither lacked talent. Gasly’s 12-race tenure proved too brief for meaningful assessment, while Albon showed flashes of brilliance across 26 races, securing two podiums during Red Bull’s 2020 constructors’ runner-up campaign.<\/p>\n
It is a similar story for Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, the latter only receiving two races alongside Verstappen. Tsunoda finds himself as Red Bull’s reserve for 2026 after finishing 17th in last year’s drivers’ standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
