Aryna Sabalenka says she is no longer thinking about last year’s Australian Open final loss to Madison Keys after defeating the US star at the Brisbane International.<\/p>\n

World number one Sabalenka found redemption with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Keys in their quarterfinal at Pat Rafter Arena on Friday.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka will meet Karol\u00edna Muchov\u00e1 in the semifinals to continue her title defence in Brisbane, after the Czech had earlier defeated third seed Elena Rybakina.<\/p>\n

A four-time major singles winner, Sabalenka dominated Keys with her first serve and made just three unforced errors to take the opening set.<\/p>\n

A determined Keys recovered from match point down on her serve in the second set, but Sabalenka would not be denied and won in one hour and 29 minutes.<\/p>\n

ABC Sport will have live coverage of the Australian Open from January 18.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka has now claimed two straight-sets victories over world number seven Keys since losing last year’s Australian Open final in three sets.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old steamrolled her American rival with a 6-0, 6-1 semifinal win at Indian Wells last year.<\/p>\n

“I know that I lost in Australia against her and that’s the big motivation, of course, to go out and to get the win,” Sabalenka said.<\/p>\n

“But I never stay in the past and never remember things from the previous meeting.<\/p>\n

“I know that I have to be focused from the beginning until the end with her because she’s an incredible fighter, and she can come back any time.<\/p>\n

“When I won the match, of course, I was super happy, but I didn’t really have the throwback to the Australian Open last year, to be honest.”<\/p>\n

Muchov\u00e1 was the first to reach the semifinals in the women’s draw after pulling off a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 quarterfinal win over world number five Rybakina.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Jessica Pegula beat Liudmila Samsonova 6-3, 7-6 (7\/3) and will play in-form Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals.<\/p>\n

Kostyuk backed up Thursday’s straight-sets win over world number three Amanda Anisimova by upsetting teenage star Mirra Andreeva 7-6 (9\/7), 6-3.<\/p>\n

In the first of the men’s quarterfinals, Aleksandar Kovacevic claimed a 7-6 (7\/3), 4-6, 6-3 win over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.<\/p>\n

The American will next face compatriot Brandon Nakashima, who beat Rapha\u00ebl Collignon 6-3, 6-3.<\/p>\n

Alex Michelsen made it three Americans into the final four of the men’s draw, beating compatriot Sebastian Korda 6-3, 7-6 (9\/7).<\/p>\n

He will play top seed Daniil Medvedev, who overcame impressive Polish lucky loser Kamil Majchrzak 6-7 (7\/4), 6-3, 6-2 in the late Friday night match on Pat Rafter Arena.<\/p>\n
