The reviews are out for the upcoming \u201cStar Trek: Starfleet Academy\u201d series, and the reaction has not been bad.<\/p>\n

On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> it sits at an 83%, which is one above the 82% that \u201cStar Trek: Discovery\u201d debuted with. On Metacritic<\/a> it\u2019s at 65\/100, which is above the 59\/100 of the first season of \u201cLower Decks,\u201d and just shy of the 66\/100 for the first season of \u201cVoyager\u201d.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a vast improvement over the disastrous scores for the \u201cSection 31\u201d movie last year, and reviews are repeatedly saying much of the same thing \u2013 that this is a \u201cStar Trek\u201d that is trying something quite new and is taking risks.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a sampling of reviews:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Star Trek\u2019 endures because it keeps returning to the radical idea that hope is something you build patiently over time. Whether this series can live up to that legacy remains an open question, but it\u2019s planting some of the right seeds.\u201d \u2013 Zaki Hasan, SF Chronicle<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cDoes this blend of old and new \u2014 at least, new to Star Trek \u2014 actually work? At times, almost shockingly well.
