Port Adelaide<\/a> recruit Corey Durdin has opened up in an exclusive interview with 7NEWS about his special relationship with his younger sister.<\/p>\n

Shianne Durdin, was born without her vision and is one of the main reasons behind the former Carlton<\/a> forward\u2019s return home to South Australia to continue his AFL<\/a> career.<\/p>\n

Born with a severe, rare genetic eye disease called Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), 16-year-old Shianne was left without vision.<\/p>\n

According to the Centre for Eye Research Australia, LCA is a rare genetic eye condition causing poor vision in babies and young children, stemming from mutations in over a dozen genes affecting the retina\u2019s light sensing cells.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Channel 7 commentator and former Collingwood and Richmond full-forward Brian Taylor, during his iconic AFL post-match segment, Roaming Brian, after a Carlton win over Essendon<\/a>, Shianne revealed the extent of her vision.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo essentially what I see is a just little bit of light perception, I can\u2019t see the colour of it, just the shade,\u201d the 16-year-old said.<\/p>\n

Durdin said he admires the incredible things his younger sister has been able to achieve despite facing setbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is inspiring how she goes about it. I wouldn\u2019t say she\u2019s let her vision impairment stop her,\u201d Durdin said.<\/p>\n

Determined not to let her vision impairment get in the way of achieving her dreams, the teenager is kicking her own goals, representing Australia in blind soccer.<\/p>\n

And Durdin says his sister\u2019s fearlessness and resilience to overcome such a huge challenge have served as a major source of inspiration for his own football career on and off the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing her be able to go after it despite what she has, is very motivating for me to come out here and put my best foot forward,\u201d Durdin said.<\/p>\n

With the help of new technology released by Telstra which allows vision impaired people to enjoy sporting experiences, such as AFL matches, in a different way, the younger Durdin is looking forward to continuing to cheer her older brother on at Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

Although she may not be able to see her brother play, it has not stopped Shianne from being his number one fan.<\/p>\n

An enigmatic forward, Durdin was selected at No. 37 in the 2020 National AFL draft<\/a> by the Carlton Football Club and played five seasons in the navy blue.<\/p>\n

Now the 23-year-old, who was traded to Port Adelaide during the off-season as part of a three-team deal with Carlton and the Gold Coast Suns<\/a>, is excited about making his mark under new Power coach Josh Carr.<\/p>\n
