The release comes just three days after the Japanese release, which <a href=\"https:\/\/godzilla.com\/blogs\/news\/godzilla-minus-zero-confirmed-for-north-american-theatrical-release-on-november-6?utm_campaign=Cmp-GMZDateReveal&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toho says<\/a> is a rare near-simultaneous bow for a Japan-produced Godzilla movie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Nov. 3 Japanese release marks the same day the original \u201cGodzilla\u201d opened in theaters in 1954, now observed as Godzilla Day. \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d also opened Nov. 3 in Japan in 2023, going on to become the highest-grossing Japan-produced Godzilla film and winning the Oscar for visual effects. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTakashi Yamazaki returns as director, screenwriter and VFX supervisor for \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero.\u201d Though plot details have not been released, production is already underway at Toho Studios, with Robot producing and visual effects handled by Shirogumi. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe sequel\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/godzilla-minus-zero-toho-1236568163\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">title was revealed<\/a> during Godzilla fest in November after the sequel was first announced in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn North America, \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d earned $56 million, the highest-grossing Japanese-language live-action film of all time. It became the first Godzilla film ever nominated for an Oscar and the first Japanese feature to win in the visual effects category.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYamazaki <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/artisans\/news\/godzilla-minus-one-director-takashi-yamazaki-ai-ves-awards-1236305429\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told Variety<\/a> last year that \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d was made for $15 million and that the budget for the sequel would likely be larger. He also reflected on the use of AI in filmmaking, saying, \u201cUntil recently, I\u2019ve been still shooting on film and I like to use miniatures.
