\n Two-time premiership Demon Athol Webb has passed away, aged 90.\n <\/p>\n
THE MELBOURNE Football Club is saddened to hear of the passing of dual premiership player Athol Webb.<\/p>\n
Webb played 74 games and kicked 146 goals for the Demons between 1955 and 1959, becoming a member of one of the most successful eras in the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
Melbourne Football Club President, Steven Smith, paid tribute to Webb\u2019s contribution to the red and blue.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of everyone at the Melbourne Football Club, we extend our condolences to Athol\u2019s family, friends and former teammates.\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAthol\u2019s contribution to our Club and to the game will always be remembered.<\/p>\n
\u201cAthol was a much loved member of a remarkable generation at Melbourne and someone who played his role with great humility and selflessness.\u201d<\/p>\n
Recruited from Tasmania, Webb developed into an important forward under legendary coach Norm Smith, forming a strong partnership with Bob Johnson.<\/p>\n
Webb played a key role in Melbourne\u2019s 1956 premiership, kicking five goals in the Grand Final victory over Collingwood.<\/p>\n
He again featured in the 1957 premiership side, kicking three goals in the Grand Final against Essendon, and led the club\u2019s goal kicking in both 1957 and 1958.<\/p>\n
Webb was inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2006, named a Hero of the Melbourne Football Club in 2008, and made a Life Member in 2023.<\/p>\n
