R360 boss Mike Tindall has rubbed shoulders with NRL great Billy Slater as he insists his postponed rebel league is on track to sign 200 players from around the world.

The competition was painted as a threat to rugby league and union last year before governing bodies vowed to ban players who defect.

The NRL went even further, threatening 10-year expulsions for players and agents if they did so much as talk to R360.

Tindall, doubling down on a new strategy, remains optimistic about his competition’s future

“How it came across and how the unions, the rugby unions and the British and Irish Lions reacted to it wasn’t exactly how we wanted to do it,” he told 7NEWS.

“So we need to do a bit of friendship making.

“The whole point of R360 is to enhance the game. It’s not to come out fighting.

“It’s supposed to be to help promote the game, hopefully drive a younger audience. But at the same time, we need to shake the game up a little bit.”

Tindall and his royal wife Zara are in Australia as Magic Millions ambassadors — alongside none other than Queensland Origin coach Slater.

“With R360, obviously with it being pushed to 2028, I’m enjoying this trip,” Tindall said.

“I might try and poach Billy — I’m sorry Pete V’landys. But no, we’ll pick up that when we get back.”

Tindall told 7NEWS over 200 players are on the verge of joining R360 once it gets the green light.

Several NRL stars are in the mix, with Ryan Papenhuyzen, Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Zac Lomax tearing up their club contracts in recent months.

Asofa-Solomona is for now eyeing off a professional boxing career while Lomax is reportedly trying to join the Melbourne Storm.

Lomax’s move came after V’landys took a shot at R360 in the wake of its two-year delay.

“Naturally Ryan and Zac are most welcome to come back,” ARL Commission chairman V’landys told AAP in November.

“They were just victims of the mirage.

“(It’s) no surprise. Their current business model was never going to work. It’s a shame so many people were hoodwinked.”

Superstar forward Payne Haas is also said to be in R360’s sights — and just last week it was reported he had only agreed to a one-year contract extension for 2027 with the Broncos, leaving the door open to linking up for the proposed 2028 start date.
