Jamie Cox<\/a>, Somerset CEO and Sheffield Shield<\/a> legend, played under his son\u2019s captaincy in Australian grade cricket on Saturday (January 10).<\/p>\n Jamie Cox registers 28* and 0-12 in grade cricket after 18,614 first-class runs <\/p>\n Now 56 years old, Cox represented the Parkdale first XI in Division 2 of Cricket Southern Bayside, lining up for them in a round nine game of the one-day competition against Chelsea. He both batted and bowled in a six-wicket win, playing under his son, Lachie.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Batting first, Chelsea were jolted early, Lachie dismissing opener Suwin Perera with just five on the board. They were soon reduced to 17-2 and then from 45-2 to 70-6, with only two of their top six batters, Colombage Appuhamy and Jagan Vijaykumar, getting into double digits.<\/p>\n But a rearguard action from their lower order took them to a respectable 144 in 37.2 overs. Stefan Fernando Pulle (20), Sashan Brahmanage (16) and Luke Schwarze (19) all made crucial contributions from seven, eight and nine, respectively.<\/p>\n Read more: Former No.2 ODI batter signs up for Belgium-based European T20 league<\/a><\/p>\n Lachie finished the proceedings by dismissing Schwarze, whereas William Lawson picked up a five-for, while giving away just 16 runs in eight overs. Jamie Cox, who picked up just nine wickets in an 18-year-long senior cricketing career, bowled four overs for Parkdale but couldn\u2019t pick up a wicket.<\/p>\n He was required with the bat in the chase, however, after son Lachie, opening the batting, was dismissed for a 12-ball duck. From 12-2, James Billings (29) and Sam Swingwood (62) resurrected the innings before Cox came in the 27th over with 47 still needed.<\/p>\n He took six deliveries to open his account, but did so with a boundary. He again had a period of lull, scoring just three off his next 12 as Swingwood did the bulk of the scoring. Cox then scored 25 off his next 25 deliveries to get to 28 off 37, finishing the chase in the 38th over.<\/p>\n Also read: Not IPL, not PSL: Which is the most competitive T20 league in the world?<\/a><\/p>\n Now Somerset CEO, Cox made his first-class debut in 1987, and went on to play 264 matches in the format, scoring 18,614 runs, with 51 tons and 81 fifties. A Tasmania<\/a> legend, he is the second-highest run-getter of all-time in the Sheffield Shield behind Darren Lehmann, with 10,821 runs in an 18-year career.<\/p>\n He also played for Somerset<\/a> from 2000 to 2004, scoring 6,688 first-class runs for them in 153 innings, with a top score of 250, and 3,598 List-A runs in 131 matches.
