It\u2019s the award many of us have been waiting for, and not just because it\u2019s the last award of the night (yeah, you heard that right \u2013 it\u2019s the final category, people!).<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the best drama film and it went to \u2026 drum roll, please \u2026 Hamnet!<\/p>\n
Yes, the incredibly emotional fictionalised depiction of Shakespeare\u2019s family life took out one of the biggest prizes of the night, pipping major powerhouses such as Sinners, The Secret Agent and Sentimental Value.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the film\u2019s second award at the Globes, following Jessie Buckley\u2019s best actress win.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s only one filmmaker on the planet who could tell this story \u2026 and that was the exceptional, exceptional Chlo\u00e9 Zhao,\u201d Hamnet producer and legendary director Steven Spielberg said before handing the mic to Zhao.<\/p>\n
\u201cPaul [Mescal] said this morning that making Hamnet made him realise the most important thing about being an artist is learning to be vulnerable enough to allow ourselves to be seen for who we are and not who we ought to be,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo give ourselves fully to the world, even the parts we\u2019re ashamed of, that we\u2019re afraid of.\u201d<\/p>\n
She gave special mention to Sinners\u2019 Ryan Coogler (whom she apparently taught how to make a fire? I\u2019d love to know the story behind that fun fact) and her other fellow nominees, saying she has watched them become \u201cso strong and tender at the same time\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI salute your bravery and dedication. Let\u2019s keep our hearts open and keep allowing ourselves to be seen,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Open hearts and dedication \u2013 how very Hamnet.
