Cattle farmer Max Hobson has been identified as the man who died in the Longwood fire near Seymour in central Victoria.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Victoria Police confirmed one person had died as a result of the bushfires ravaging the state.<\/p>\n

Mr Hobson’s remains, it was revealed<\/a>, were found around 100 metres from a vehicle off Yarck Road in Gobur, north of Alexandra.<\/p>\n

His death is the first fatality linked to the state’s ongoing bushfire disaster.<\/p>\n

Mr Hobson and his wife, Julie, operated Aintree Farm Herefords at Terip Terip, near Euroa.<\/p>\n

He had found cattle farming later in life, telling Hereford Australia in January 2024 his new-found career was initially a steep learning curve but he soon found his niche.<\/p>\n

He and Julie wanted to “leave the farm in a better shape for the next generation or person”.<\/p>\n

They were always looking for new information on production and productivity for their herd and farm.<\/p>\n

The former mechanical engineer and project manager for 50 years had spent time in South America and Western Australia before calling north-east Victoria home.<\/p>\n

Pole Hereford Breeder Ian Locke from Holbrook knew Mr Hobson and said it was a devastating loss for the cattle industry.<\/p>\n

“I know they loved their Herefords and that was a shared interest to me,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Locke said friends and family would feel the loss of Mr Hobson and it was a shock to hear of his passing.<\/p>\n
