Amund Gr\u00f8ndahl Jansen<\/a> has decided to bring his professional cycling career to an end. The 31-year-old Norwegian parted ways with Uno-X Mobility at the end of 2025 and has now chosen not to continue as a professional rider. During his career, Jansen spent four seasons with LottoNL-Jumbo<\/a> and Jumbo-Visma, before moving via Jayco AlUla to the Norwegian squad.Jansen began his career in 2013 with the Norwegian team Plussbank. In 2016, he made a strong impression at Team Joker in the U23 ranks, most notably by winning a stage at the Tour de l\u2019Avenir. That performance earned the then 22-year-old a WorldTour contract with LottoNL-Jumbo<\/a>, where he quickly demonstrated his value\u2014particularly in the Flemish one-day races.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Jansen developed into a highly valued domestique in the classics, but he also rode the Tour de France three years in a row for the Dutch team. His best season came in 2019, when he won a stage at the Ster ZLM Tour and claimed several top results in major races. He was also a key part of the classics squad built around Wout van Aert.<\/p>\n

False start at Jayco AlUla due to artery problemsHe signed with Team BikeExchange-Jayco, the predecessor of Jayco AlUla, but endured four very difficult years there. Narrowed iliac arteries<\/a> hampered his performances, preventing him from making the transition from pure domestique to more aggressive, attacking roles. A fresh start with Uno-X Mobility seemed necessary, but things did not fall into place there either. At the end of 2025, his contract was not renewed.Jansen was forced to reflect on his future: continue as a professional cyclist, or step away from the sport altogether. He chose the latter. On Sunday, he announced his retirement on Instagram<\/a>, sharing a video of himself rock climbing and skiing. \u201cThings you couldn\u2019t do as a professional cyclist,\u201d he explained. “That\u2019s as good a retirement announcement as any, I guess.”
