Illness, pregnancy, and work commitments are common excuses stars give for skipping award shows, but none of those came close to the one Aussie Golden Globes winner Rose Byrne offered in regards to the absence of her husband Bobby Cannavale on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Byrne accepted the award for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture \u2013 Musical\/Comedy for If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You! and nervously took the stage before delivering a charmingly hilarious lesson in Aussie humility that had the Hollywood crowd in hysterics.<\/p>\n

After admitting she \u201cdidn\u2019t prepare anything\u201d, the 46-year-old thanked filmmaker Mary Bronstein\u2019s team for casting her in the low-budget 2024 indie film and expressed how very \u2018indie\u2019 it was.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50 \u2014 this is like a tiny film, so this is a huge thing for me,\u201d a teary Byrne said.<\/p>\n

However, the mother-of-two drew the loudest reaction upon detailing her family\u2019s dedication to the awards show \u2014 or more specifically \u2014 her American acting husband\u2019s lack-there-of.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother\u2019s my date, thanks George,\u201d she breathlessly continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to, you know, my mum and dad who bought Paramount Plus so they could watch the Golden Globes from Sydney…<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I wanna thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn\u2019t be here because we\u2019re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Byrne and Cannavale share children Rocco and Rafael, born in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and have occasionally acted alongside each other on screen.<\/p>\n

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 8, the Sydney-born star foreshadowed her husband\u2019s award show absence, lamenting the unfortunate calendar clash while explaining the perceived perils of reptile ownership.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a friend who had (a bearded dragon) and she said crickets do escape, sometimes. And you\u2019ll find them around the house,\u201d Byrne told host Fallon.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this expo is the place where everyone goes, and it\u2019s the place to go, and it was on the same day.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it would just be such a parent fail so we\u2019re doing it. I\u2019m on board for the dragon, it\u2019s going to be great.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said Cannavale is \u201cdoing God\u2019s work\u201d.<\/p>\n
