\n\t\u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>\u201d has won the Golden Globe for best original song, \u201cGolden<\/a>\u201d and best animated feature.<\/p>\n \n\tAccepting the award for original song were songwriters EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick and Lee Hee-joon.<\/p>\n \n\tA tearful EJAE said, \u201cWhen I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fill one dream, to become a Kpop idol, and I was rejected, and disappointed that my voice isn\u2019t good enough.\u201d She went on to say, \u201cI\u2019m so glad to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other queens and everyone of all ages to get through their hardship to accept themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAfter Sonnenblick thanked the team at Netflix and Sony Animation, EJAE dedicated the award \u201cto people who have their doors closed at them, and that, I can confidently say \u2018rejection is redirection,\u2019 and so never give up.\u201d Quoting the lyrics of \u201cGolden,\u201d she ended by saying, \u201cIt\u2019s never too late to shine like you were born to be.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAlso nominated in best original song were \u201cDream as One\u201d from\u201dAvatar: Fire and Ash,\u201d \u201cI Lied to You\u201d from\u201dSinners,\u201d \u201cNo Place Like Home\u201d and \u201cThe Girl in the Bubble\u201d from \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d and \u201cTrain Dreams\u201d from \u201cTrain Dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn animation, the film triumphed over \u201cArco, \u201cDemon Slayer: Infinity Castle\u201d \u201cElio,\u201d \u201cLittle Am\u00e9lie or the Character of Rain\u201d and \u201cZootopia 2.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMaggie Kang, who co-directed the film with Chris Appelhans, is the first Asian woman to win the category. The first Asian winner was Hayao Miyazaki (\u201cThe Boy and the Heron\u201d) in 2023.<\/p>\n \n\tDuring her speech, Kang thanked everyone \u201cwho believed that a movie so deeply rooted in Korean culture.\u201d She added, \u201cThrough this film, we really wanted to depict female characters \u2013 the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird, and really hungry for food and sometimes a little thirsty.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIts win comes a week after the Netflix hit was named best animated feature and also earned a prize for best song for its chart-topping hit \u201cGolden\u201d at the Critics Choice Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tEJAE previously told Variety, \u201cOne of the biggest assets I brought to the movie, or when writing the songs, was being bilingual. It was important for our co-director, Maggie Kang, to have Korean in the lyrics, and I just love that it\u2019s not just the verses; it was in the actual song too.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLast year, Rei Ami, who is the singing voice of Zoey in the film, spoke to the success of the film. She told Variety, \u201cAs women of color and Korean women, we were often told we have to work twice as hard, we have to show up earlier, we have to show out more than our average counterparts in order for us to receive the same kind of accolade or even recognition.\u201d She went on to say, \u201cI think we all can relate to how hard we have worked to get to this point individually, and then we come together as a group, and we create this beautiful synchronicity that infects the world, and they\u2019ve received us so well.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d nabbed three Golden Globe nominations in total, including best animated film, cinematic and box office achievement and best original song for \u201cGolden.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tSince its debut on Netflix in June, the film became the streamer\u2019s most popular movie of all time as it dominated the No. 1 spot for weeks. Meanwhile, three of its original songs \u2014 \u201cGolden,\u201d \u201cYour Idol\u201d and \u201cSoda Pop\u201d \u2014 have been mainstays on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100 chart. Last month, it earned three Grammy nominations, including the coveted song of the year for \u201cGolden.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAlso nominated for cinematic and box office achievement are \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash,\u201d \u201cF1: The Movie,\u201d \u201cMission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning,\u201d \u201cSinners,\u201d \u201cWeapons,\u201d \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d and \u201cZootopia 2.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d has been such a phenomenon that the theatrical-averse Netflix decided to bring a sing-along version of the film to theaters for fan events in August and October. During the first go-around, \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d topped the box office with roughly $18 million over two days.
