(Supplied: Tristin Sheen)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Dr Pirotta said if the whale was Siale, it may mean she stayed in Australian waters over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it is another whale, who is it and what kind of whale is it?&#8221;  she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Dr Pirotta explained that while it was unclear how white whales were impacted by their colouring, they provided valuable insights into migration patterns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;A white humpback whale is just like any other whale, except they lack melanin,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Maybe this whale sticks out so much that it&#8217;s a risk to predators, maybe they&#8217;re more vulnerable to sunburn \u2014 yes, whales can get sunburnt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;From a science point of view, it&#8217;s really interesting because it provides direct information on whale movements \u2026 they&#8217;re easier to spot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman stands in center fram in a black long sleeve and black vest with brown hair smiling at camera, standing at the beach.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2c010bc4854c4753ff11423f9e508996.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Vanessa Pirotta says albino whales have a higher risk of attracting predators.
