{"id":41174,"date":"2025-08-03T20:45:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T20:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/41174\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T20:45:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T20:45:09","slug":"lando-norris-beats-oscar-piastri-after-mclaren-strategy-call-video-highlights-points-standings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/41174\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris beats Oscar Piastri after McLaren strategy call, video, highlights, points, standings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lando Norris trimmed McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri\u2019s lead in the drivers\u2019 world championship to just nine points on Sunday when he switched tactics to lead him home by just 0.698 seconds in a thrilling finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old Briton, who moved from a two-stop strategy to one stop, held off series leader Piastri, on fresher tyres, over the closing laps of a strategic contest to claim McLaren\u2019s 200th victory and their record 13th win in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>It was Norris\u2019s first win at the Hungaroring in the event\u2019s 40th race, avenging his \u2018team orders\u2019 defeat in 2024 when Piastri claimed his maiden success, his fifth victory of the season and the ninth of his career.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every practice, qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship\u2122 LIVE in 4K. Oscar was pushing all the way.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>After the race, Martin Brundle said about the split strategies: \u201cOscar will be seething with that\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Piastri said he had done all he could to triumph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great racing,\u201d he said. \u201cLando did a great job.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Piastri questioned his team\u2019s decision to try to \u2018undercut\u2019 Leclerc with a pit stop in the early stages of the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure that was the right call in the end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lando Norris trimmed McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri\u2019s lead in the drivers\u2019 world championship to just nine points.Source: AP<\/p>\n<p>His drive brought McLaren their fourth consecutive 1-2 finish. <\/p>\n<p>Two-time champion Fernando Alonso came home fifth for Aston Martin ahead of Sauber\u2019s Gabriel Bortoleto, Lance Stroll in the second Aston Martin, rookie Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls and frustrated four-time champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes\u2019 rookie Kimi Antonelli was 10th ahead of Racing Bulls\u2019 Isack Hadjar with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton 12th in the second Ferrari, 24 hours after declaring himself undeserving of their race seat.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy overnight rain had \u2018re-set\u2019 the track on a breezy afternoon in front of a big crowd at the Hungaroring.<\/p>\n<p>The track temperature was only 31 degrees, encouraging thoughts of a one-stop race as tyre-wear decreased and Leclerc controlled the pace ahead of Piastri, Russell and Norris.<\/p>\n<p>Piastri pitted on lap 18, seeking an undercut.
