Healy’s tortuous path to greatness<\/a><\/p>\nAlyssa Healy was thrust into headlines when she was just 16 for daring to break into a literal old boys’ club, but has expertly handled the national spotlight with bat, ball and microphone in hand.<\/p>\n
“Whether she says it or not, I think it’s something she’s really good at,” Starc said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“She certainly enjoys it, and I think she’s got a good crew there to bounce off.<\/p>\n
“She’s been quite taken aback, I guess, by the positive or the over-the-top, how good she’s been [feedback].<\/p>\n
“Whether it’s something she wants to do going forward a lot more, I think she’s enjoyed the fact she got to do three of the Test matches.<\/p>\n
“It’s something she’s very good at as well and watches a lot of cricket.”<\/p>\n
Healy has also previously mentioned a desire to start a family after retirement.<\/p>\n
Alongside Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry, the 35-year-old was one of the key leaders of Australia’s all-conquering era who took the women’s game to new heights.<\/p>\n
Among her many accolades, Healy was twice named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year and will finish with more than 7,000 international runs and 275 dismissals to her name.<\/p>\n
Starc praised Healy’s transformation as a player after taking over as captain from Lanning in 2023.<\/p>\n
“She watches a lot more cricket than I do. I mean, she’s the captain too,” Starc said.<\/p>\n
“She’s a bit more switched on with all that sort of thing, [so] probably seeing her shift a little bit when she took over the captaincy and putting her personal stuff aside and trying to push that team to achieve all that potential.<\/p>\n
“She’s still got that hunger or enough hunger left to want to beat India and finish on a really positive note.”<\/p>\n
