England have reportedly declared they will attempt to block any Australian plans to host another day-night Test in the next Ashes<\/a> series down under.<\/p>\n

The tourists avoided having to open the Ashes at the Gabba when the series opener was moved to Perth, with Brisbane instead hosting the second Test as a pink-ball affair.<\/p>\n

But England still suffered a demoralising eight-week loss to go down 2-0 in the series.<\/p>\n

Conversations between Cricket Australia and the England Cricket Board have already resulted in an ultimatum of sorts in talks between the two governing bodies following the series.<\/p>\n

The BBC reports<\/a> the ECB used the conversation to \u201cindicate their stance\u201d against another day-night Test, more than three years out from the 2029-30 clash.<\/p>\n

It comes with the one-off 150th anniversary Test at the MCG in March next year already locked in as a pink ball match, with concerns the visitors will be humiliated again.<\/p>\n

Australia have hosted the majority of pink-ball Tests played since their introduction and extended their dominance with the win over England in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, England great Stuart Broad has said he doubts a drinking culture has set in with the team despite high-profile incidents involving alcohol in Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Harry Brook, white-ball captain and Test vice-captain, was fined for a late-night altercation with a bouncer in Wellington just hours before he led the side in an ODI against New Zealand in November.<\/p>\n

The news leaked out soon after England completed a 4-1 Ashes series loss in Sydney.<\/p>\n

During the Ashes tour a mid-series break to Noosa attracted attention, likened to a \u201cstag do\u201d with players pictured drinking in public across multiple days.<\/p>\n

A video of a seemingly disorientated Ben Duckett in a tetchy exchange with fans then emerged on social media during the trip, but Broad feels these instances should be viewed as isolated episodes.<\/p>\n

Broad, who took 604 wickets in 167 Tests for England before retiring after the 2023 Ashes, said on his \u2018For the Love of Cricket\u2019 podcast: \u201cI think cultural-wise, England are good, there isn\u2019t a drinking culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d hang my hat on that knowing the boys as well as I do. I just look at these guys: (Zak) Crawley, (Ollie) Pope, (Ben) Stokes in recent times, (Joe) Root, they\u2019re not really drinkers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have just been a couple of guys who have made mistakes and that\u2019s got into the media.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an international player you need some sort of release. If you don\u2019t have that mental switch off – cricketers are away six months of the year in hotels, it drives you mad if you don\u2019t do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been speculation that a midnight curfew might be reimposed, which was introduced during the 2017-18 Ashes tour but repealed when head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes took charge of the Test side in mid-2022.<\/p>\n

Broad, though, said the issue was not players being out late, but a failure of teammates to look out for each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s having the team-mates around you to go \u2018your time\u2019s up, mate\u2019,\u201d said Broad.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s up to your team-mates to get you out of those situations.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour culture is really strong when Ben Duckett isn\u2019t left alone (and has) no idea where his hotel is and Harry Brook doesn\u2019t get himself in a situation with a bouncer because he\u2019s not allowed anywhere near that situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s the thing that will disappoint Baz (McCullum). I\u2019d be very surprised if Baz and (managing director of men\u2019s cricket) Rob Key bang on curfews, they\u2019ll just be saying \u2018look after each other a bit, let\u2019s get tighter\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
