The Rugby Football League said Wane\u2019s successor, who will be hired ahead of this year\u2019s World Cup in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, would be a part-time appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been the honour of my life to coach England rugby league over the last six years but after careful reflection I believe the time is right to step aside and allow the program to move forward into its next chapter,\u201d said Wane.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe privilege of leading my country in a World Cup, an Ashes series on home soil and securing victories over Tonga and Samoa will live long in the memory.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 61-year-old oversaw England\u2019s run to the World Cup semi-finals four years ago, when they suffered an agonising loss to Samoa at the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

Although Wane guided England to series wins over Tonga in 2023 and Samoa a year later, he faced criticism after losing all three Tests against Australia last October and November.<\/p>\n
Wane could look to return to the Super League arena. <\/p>\n
He expressed a desire to in 2024, believing he was \u201cunderselling himself\u201d as only a national coach.<\/p>\n
Wane hasn\u2019t coached in the Super League since 2018. <\/p>\n
The 2026 Rugby League World Cup, which commences in October, will be hosted by Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand in October-November.
