One of Australia’s finest pieces of sporting history has hit the auction house, as Lloyd’s Auctions open the bidding on the great Sir Donald Bradman’s infamous baggy green from the 1947\/48 series against India.<\/p>\n

The baggy green – one of Bradman’s 11 still known to exist – was worn by the great during India’s first tour of Australia as an independent nation, and was gifted to Indian Test cricketer S. W. Sohoni following the series’ conclusion. The cap was kept within the family for over 75 years without display, and now reaches the auction house for the first time.<\/p>\n

A piece of Australian heritage, the cap was worn during Bradman’s only series against India, scoring 715 runs for an average of 178.75. Bradman top scored with 201 in Adelaide, as Australia went on to win the series 4-0.<\/p>\n

The contest marked Bradman’s final ever home Test, finishing his career with a final Ashes series in England in late 1948.<\/p>\n
