A Sydney school teacher accused of plotting the sexual assault of two children he was allegedly “pimping out” to another man has been refused bail.<\/p>\n
Child abuse detectives on Wednesday arrested International Grammar School (IGS) teacher Peter James Adam following a search of a Bondi home.<\/p>\n
The 63-year-old was subsequently charged with two counts of inciting to commit aggravated sex assault while in the company of others.<\/p>\n
He was also charged with using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.<\/p>\n
NSW Police in a statement said Mr Adam was accused of working with another man to plan the sexual assault of two children, with 35-year-old Todd Soulas also charged with several child abuse offences.<\/p>\n
Mr Adam fronted a Sydney court for the first time on Thursday, speaking to confirm he was a teacher and planned to resign.<\/p>\n
‘Abhorrent’ allegations<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Sergeant Christopher Manning described the allegations against Mr Adam as “abhorrent and concerning”, saying the man was accused of “actively taking steps” to allow the now-adult victims to be “drugged and sexually assaulted” by Mr Soulas.<\/p>\n
He said Mr Adam was accused of “pimping out” the children to Mr Soulas, allegedly sending photos of the children so Mr Soulas could use artificial intelligence to create “pornographic material”.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Manning said Mr Adam also allegedly received child abuse material from another young person in Mosman.<\/p>\n
He said police rejected claims Mr Adam was “just assisting somebody in a fantasy” and alleged he took “strong and active steps for these offensives to be committed”.<\/p>\n
‘Exceedingly strong case’<\/p>\n
Sergeant Manning said police opposed Mr Adam’s application for bail, saying no conditions imposed could mitigate the risk he posed to the alleged victims and the community.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Margaret Quinn said the case against Mr Adam was “exceedingly strong”, with the allegations depicting “the worst sort of abuse” that could occur to a child.<\/p>\n
Mr Adams was refused bail and remanded in custody, and is due to appear in court again in March.<\/p>\n
Mr Soulas’s matter also remains before the courts.<\/p>\n
Teacher to be stood down<\/p>\n
Ultimo-based IGS said the primary school teacher would be stood down.<\/p>\n
“The charges do not relate to students at IGS,” the school said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“The school has assured parents and carers that the safety of IGS students remains the school’s highest priority.”<\/p>\n
