Almost 150 Zone RV customers have paid about $15 million in progress payments made for caravans that have not been constructed.<\/p>\n
At a 3-hour virtual meeting on Thursday that included up to 100 customers, creditors voted to liquidate the company on the recommendation of administrator Cor Cordis.<\/p>\n
However, Cor Cordis partner Rahul Goyal said he was optimistic a sale was imminent with a new buyer to “cherry pick” the company’s assets.<\/p>\n

“We’re hoping to announce the sale later this week or early next week,” Mr Goyal said.<\/p>\n
“We want to move quite quickly. As it’s been clearly noted, it’s expensive having us there.”<\/p>\n
Cor Cordis partner Kate Conneely gave some hope to customers anxiously waiting to see whether a prospective buyer would honour existing orders.<\/p>\n
“The sale may result in completion of additional caravans by a buyer,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Liquidation of Zone RV does not affect any of the negotiations with respect to the sale of the business.”<\/p>\n
Secured creditors, such as banks, and employees get priority for any proceeds from liquidation.<\/p>\n
Customers’ best chance of a return stands with a prospective buyer purchasing Zone’s assets and offering to complete their van orders, albeit with customers asked to pay an additional fee.<\/p>\n
Police probe<\/p>\n
Ms Conneely said a report had been lodged with ASIC alleging Zone RV’s sole director David Biggar breached the Corporations Act.<\/p>\n
Zone RV was “likely” trading insolvent since September 2024, but “may have been insolvent” as early as August 2023, according to Cor Cordis.<\/p>\n
Queensland Police confirmed they were investigating a fraud complaint relating to Mr Biggar.<\/p>\n
“As the investigation remains ongoing, it is inappropriate to provide any further comment at this time,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Mr Biggar has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n

Ms Conneely told creditors she has been discussing the matter the NSW Police Fraud Squad.<\/p>\n
“Our investigations are presently pointing to this being a civil matter, not a criminal matter,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We don’t think it’s necessary for creditors to further engage with the police as this is something we will address in the future if we deem it necessary.<\/p>\n
“The police have asked that we engage with them directly as opposed to [them] being contacted by multiple customers.”<\/p>\n
NSW Police was contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
Cor Cordis said Zone RV collapsed due to “poor financial management”, “risky expansion”, constant changes to management, periods without leadership in finance and operations, and relying on customer instalment payments to fund Zone RV’s operations.<\/p>\n
Ms Conneely previously said current and former officers of Zone RV needed to explain “several transactions”.<\/p>\n
She said the liquidator’s next steps “may include public examinations or proceeding with litigation seeking compensation on behalf of the creditors”.<\/p>\n
Customers feel robbed<\/p>\n
Gold Coast resident Gary Steele has paid $122,000 towards his Zone RV caravan and planned to spend this year travelling around Australia.<\/p>\n
“I would rather give that [money] to my kids or to charity than have it stolen from me, that’s the way it feels,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Steele said while he could survive the financial loss other customers were not so lucky.<\/p>\n
“Some people are terminally ill, some people are older than me, so for them it’s robbing them time as well,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I’d like [liquidators] to use the full extent of the law to personally hold the officials and officers of that business responsible for the impacts they’ve had on others.”<\/p>\n
Mr Steele said “time will tell” whether the liquidators were able to pursue litigation.<\/p>\n
“Everybody wants to see justice served, but who’s prepared to put their hand in their pocket?” he said.<\/p>\n
