Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 10"Simon

Here we go – final round.

Ivic might need something special here – I just feel that Taliva’a has had the better of the fight – without having kept a scorecard.

Both men come out hard but nothing really lands and they settle back into their distance again.

Ivic lands! Good shot that has the crowd excited!

Taliva’a misses with another massive left hook! He lands with one of them he could take Ivic’s head off.

Both men miss.

Ivic lands a jab though that just stings Taliva’a.

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 9"Simon

Taliva’a lands a jab to the body.

Then both men go head hunting. This is good action but not much of it clean.

Good jab from Taliva’a lands.

Ivic lands a couple of shots and has Taliva’a been caught there? He’s grimacing but gets straight back on the front foot.

Taliva’a swings himself off his feet there almost with a huge left! Ivic makes him pay with a couple of shots.

Good right from Ivic lands – that was a solid thud that we could hear all of 50 metres away in the back row.

NOW THEY BOTH EXCHANGE! Good shots!

Taliva’a is landing to the head of Ivic! Ivic fights back with a shot of his own – but more of Taliva’a shots are getting through.

That’s a great shot though, a stiff right down the pipe from Ivic to end the round.

9m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:37am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 8"Simon

Taliva’a comes forward to the cent of the ring but is forced back immediately.

He misses with a jab but then gets clipped by a neat jab from Ivic.

There hasn’t been much clinching but now they come together on the ropes, both landing a couple of shots as they fight to get out of dodge.

Taliva’a punches and lands with a right to the chin of Ivic.

They come together again but Ivic gets caught again on the chin with another right hook.

NOW THERE’S ACTION! A flurry of shots from both men, lefts and rights, bar-room brawling towards the end of the round.

Taliva’a misses with a massive left hook that grazes the space where Ivic had his head just before.

Both men swing and land to end the round.

The crowd has quietened. I don’t think they expected this one to go this long. I know I didn’t based on the frenetic first two rounds.

13m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:33am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 7"Simon

Ivic has a cold press applied to his left cheek there at the break between rounds, it’s swelling a bit under his eye.

A massive crowd in Brisbane watches, engrossed as the two big men meet in the middle of the ring again.

It’s not been frenetic stuff for a while, but it’s been no less engrossing.

Ivic comes forward behind the jab, doubling up behind it as he comes in.

Ivic is starting to look a bit more dominant here, perhaps Taliva’a is fading, because it’s the champion who is controlling things now.

As I write that Taliva’a slashes out a big hand that forces Ivic back.

Now Ivic comes forward and both men exchange a couple of shots.

There hasn’t been much in the way of clinching in this fight as the pair come together and immediately punch their way out of it.

Good jabbing from both men ends the round.

17m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:29am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 6"Simon

There’s a bit of a skirmish in the crowd that gets everyone on the floor of the arena up on their feet in excitement.

Meanwhile, the boxers are going at it in the middle of the ring.

Good shots from Ivic, he needed that, a combination that just tested the chin of Taliva’a there.

Good jabs, tripling up on the jab from Ivic.

Taliva’a swings wildly and misses.

Ivic comes back in behind that jab again – that’s better from the champion – he needs more of that. It’s been a good round for him.

Taliva’a is looking a bit gassed, throwing for the sake of throwing, to be honest, and not landing as well as he did earlier in the fight.

20m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:26am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 5"Simon

Ivic lands with that ranging jab again as Taliva’a comes forward.

The action has slowed considerably, both these men feeling the pace on a hot night in Brisbane – although it’s mercifully cool in the arena.

Not much landing.

But now Taliva’a lands with some solid shots – really nice shots that have Ivic on the back foot and feeling the challenger’s gloves across his brow.

It’s good boxing from Taliva’a.

Ivic has been reduced to throwing long-range jabs, only a couple of which have landed.

Half distance, I like Taliva’a for this one as it stands.

25m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:21am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 4"Simon

Taliva’a is on the offensive again, but he’s very wary of getting clipped, as Ivic slashes out a left jab to keep him at bay.

Ivic with a couple of shots to the head that has Taliva’a covering up a bit.

The challenger Taliva’a is still coming forward though – relentlessly.

Ivic has to be careful but then he lashes out with a fierce shot to keep Taliva’a back.

Another less frenetic round, this.

Good action there from Taliva’a who lands a flurry on Ivic.

And another good couple of shots land from Taliva’a.

28m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:18am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 3"Simon

Taliva’a drives forward behind his jab. Misses out on making any real impact with them though.

This is a more tentative round.

Ivic comes forward now but Taliva’a ducks away nicely.

This is good stuff from the challenger.

Tentative boxing from Ivic, but he’s just throwing out that jab now to keep the distance and gauge when to throw the big right.

There’s a good left to the chin from Ivic on the counter as Taliva’a comes forward. Really nice, crisp shot.

Good end to the round from Ivic, who comes forward and lands a left and then a right, followed by another left for good measure.

Both men taking a slight breather that round.

29m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:17am

Zerafa has just arrived…"Simon

Michael Zerafa has just arrived – late arrival for him, barely 90 minutes before he’s due to box.

31m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:15am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 2"Simon

Some big shots raining in from Taliva’a, but he’s being forced to cover up now after some brilliant pressure from Ivic.

That was a great turnaround.

Taliva’a starting hard but then getting rocked hard by a brutal right uppercut.

Great stuff – I can’t see this one going the distance, to be honest.

Taliva’a with a body shot.

He’s the one who is doing more of the pressure boxing now, dominating the centre of the ring.

Ivic with a couple of tentative jabs to the side of the head.

Good jabs that time from Ivic.

Both men miss with some wild swings.

Another good round of action.

33m agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 9:13am

Ivic vs Taliva’a, Round 1"Simon

A good round from both men.

Apologies we’re really struggling with the internet here ringside.

But Ivic is really on top, landing some stinging shots and really making Taliva’a cover up plenty.

Apologies for the technical difficulties there – but as you can see, Liam Wilson has won by KO!

But Liam Wilson gets his win – a brutal left hook to the body in the fourth round – getting the win inside the distance.

Wilson vs Piaxa, Round 3"Simon

Wilson needs to be a bit more wary to open things off here in this round after being caught in the last.

He jabs a couple of times and keeps Piaxa back on his heels.

Piaxa jabs to the body.

Both men exchange jabs.

Then Piaxa lands a couple of really big swinging shots — this is good from the Filipino fighter.

A one-two from the challenger now.

This is good from the Filipino fighter.

But Wilson comes back nicely there with a solid shot of his own.

Upper cut from Piaxa there to end the round.

1h agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 8:39am

Wilson vs Piaxa, Round 2"Simon

Piaxa comes out swinging!

He’s hit Wilson with an overhand right and that’s rocked the local lad a bit! He’s a bit wobbly there and he is going to try and keep it close for a bit.

That’s better from Wilson, Piaxa standing still in front of him and getting knocked by a couple of solid blows.

Wilson knows he’s in a fight now, at least.

Good left from Piaxa, a swinging, looping left that catches the Queenslander.

Wilson goes back to the jab.

And jabs again. And again.

Piaxa looks a bit puffed after his early exertions.

But that’s another left that misses barely.

And now Piaxa is warned for a low blow.

Piaxa lands a couple of shots, left right from the Filipino fighter.

And a right that lands solidly.

1h agoFri 16 Jan 2026 at 8:34am

Wilson vs Piaxa, Round 1"Simon

We’re underway with a burst of flame from the pyrotechnics — but that’s not reflected in a cagey start as Wilson lines out his jab to establish distance.

Piaxa comes forward and leans into Wilson, who edges him away with an attempted upper cut.

Now Piaxa opens up with a couple of shots, bit nothing landing.

A jab each lands, Wilson is tentative.

He goes to the body does Wilson.

The crowd is not restless, but expectant of action. A chant of “Wilson, Wilson” echoes around the arena.

Piaxa jabs to the belly of Wilson.

Wison lands a couple of short upper cuts.

Tight round.

Points win prediction from James"Simon

Liam Wilson is not a finisher so I don’t expect him to win, other than on points if he gets on top of his opponent. He thinks he is a KO merchant but he can’t seem to deliver consistently

Liam Wilson walks to the ring"Simon

Rodex Piala is already there, having completed his ring walk, but now it’s Liam Wilson’s turn to walk to the ring, flanked by the Australian flag and the WBO International super featherweight belt.

The crowd is packed in to this arena now and as the Filipino fighter is introduced, it’s barely hostile, just bland indifference — which is arguably worse.

The reception for Wilson is though, as you’d expect, raucous.

Liam planning for Redcliffe title fight"Simon""(No Limit Boxing)

While we’re waiting for the pay-per-view action to get underway, Liam Wilson has said this week that he is ready for another crack at the WBO super-featherweight title — and he wants to take on Mexican legend Emanuel Navarrete in Redcliffe, just to the north of Brisbane.

Wilson (17-3, 9KO) had two world title cracks in Arizona, one in 2023 against Navarrete, which he lost in controversial circumstances, and the other the following year against Mexico’s Oscar Valdez for the interim title where he also fell short.

Few can doubt that Wilson was robbed against Navarrete in 2023.

Wilson knocked the Mexican down hard in the fourth round, but the home-town fighter was given an outrageous count to compose himself.

""(Getty Images)

“They gave him a 28-second count. I should have been world champion,” Wilson said.

“It was politics. There is still a lot of controversy about that fight but I’ve got a good team and they have a great plan to get me back there.”

The Redcliffe-born Wilson is a mad-keen Dolphins NRL fan and wants his promoter No Limit to bring a world title fight against Navarrete to their home stadium.

A pod of Dolphins players will be ringside tonight to support him.

“Those two world title fights were earlier in my career where I took the challenge, came close but failed,” Wilson told AAP.

“I am 29. I am older, wiser and at my peak.

“Hopefully I get a rematch this year at the Dolphins’ stadium against Navarrete who is the current champion.

“I am No. 3 in the world and a phone call away. I have to trust my promoter No Limit and hopefully we can all work in together with the Dolphins and make something happen.

“I’ve already been to Arizona twice and I’ve done my fair share of fighting abroad. Let’s bring these guys out of their comfort zone.

“I’m from Redcliffe and Caboolture. The fans want to see the local boy fight in his local town.”

""(No Limit Boxing)

Firstly, Wilson has to get past Piala in what he said loomed as a “tough fight” in front of his Dolphins “soldiers.”

“I wore a Dolphins jersey at the Oscar Valdez pre-fight in Arizona,” Wilson said.

“We go to war Friday night and I want them to come and help me.”
