{"id":416813,"date":"2026-01-16T11:49:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T11:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/416813\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T11:49:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T11:49:15","slug":"bok-stars-to-battle-for-sa-rugbys-top-gong-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/416813\/","title":{"rendered":"Bok stars to battle for SA Rugby&#8217;s top gong &#8211; south africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NEWS: Springboks stars are dominating the SA Rugby Awards 2025, with Malcolm Marx, who was named World Rugby\u2019s Men\u2019s 15s Player of the Year last year, up against his teammates for the SA Rugby\u2019s Men\u2019s Player of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>Marx, along with Pieter-Steph du Toit, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Ox Nche and Jasper Wiese, has been nominated for the prestigious SA Rugby\u2019s Men\u2019s Player of the Year Award for 2025.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The nominees for the SA Rugby Men\u2019s Player of the Year are Pieter-Steph du Toit, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Malcolm Marx, Ox Nche, and Jasper Wiese \ud83e\udd1d<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Springboks?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#Springboks<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ForeverGreenForeverGold?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#ForeverGreenForeverGold<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SARugbyAwards?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#SARugbyAwards<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9KXotQNbj2\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/9KXotQNbj2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Springboks (@Springboks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Springboks\/status\/2012106427813498948?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 16, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winner, Cheslin Kolbe, will not retain his crown after missing out on nominations.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s local winner, Nadine Roos, has been nominated again for the Women\u2019s Player of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>SA Rugby announced the nominees \u2013 as voted for by members of the media and national teams\u2019 coaching staff \u2013 in nine categories on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The various winners will be announced in due course, along with the annual OUTsurance Referee of the Year, Provincial Women\u2019s Player of the Year, Associate Member of the Year and the FNB Fans\u2019 Moment of the Year awards.<\/p>\n<p>Du Toit, a former winner of both SA Rugby and World Rugby\u2019s top awards, and Nche were on the shortlist last year too, and both were also nominated for the World Rugby Award, while Feinberg-Mngomezulu, like the other four, was named in World Rugby\u2019s 2025 Dream Team. Wiese equally had a stellar season for the Boks and has been nominated for the first time for the top award in South African rugby.<\/p>\n<p>Four previous winners \u2013 Roos, Aseza Hele, Libbie Janse van Rensburg, and Babalwa Latsha \u2013 were nominated for SA Rugby Women\u2019s Player of the Year. The quartet, along with the fifth nominee, Byrhandr\u00e9 Dolf, all played key roles helping South Africa reach the Women\u2019s Rugby World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in a watershed season for the Springbok Women.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Byrhandr\u00e9 Dolf, Aseza Hele, Libbie Janse van Rensburg, Babalwa Latsha, and Nadine Roos have been nominated for the SA Rugby Women\u2019s rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 16, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Four of the five players nominated for the Young Player of the Year Award played Test rugby in 2025 \u2013 Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Ethan Hooker, Canan Moodie and Zachary Porthen \u2013 while the fifth, Haashim Pead, played a key role for the Junior Boks in their World Rugby U20 Championship triumph.<\/p>\n<p>Pead was also nominated in the category for Junior Springbok Player of the Year, along with SA U20 captain Riley Norton, and Cheswill Jooste, while the three nominees for the Springbok Sevens Men\u2019s Player of the Year Award are Selvyn Davids, Shilton van Wyk and Impi Visser, all of whom were part of the Blitzbok squad that won the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles in May.<\/p>\n<p>The success of South Africa\u2019s national teams is reflected in the nominations for the Coach and Team of the Year Awards \u2013 Rassie Erasmus and the Springboks, Philip Snyman and the Blitzboks, and Kevin Foote and the Junior Boks, while Swys de Bruin also made the shortlist for the coach award after guiding the Bok Women to their best finish yet at a Rugby World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>On the Currie Cup front, Griquas\u2019 success in the Premier Division is underlined by nominations for Gurshwin Wehr and George Whitehead, who are up against the Boland Kavaliers\u2019 Donavan Don, and in the First Division, the Griffons duo of Andrew Kota and Willem van den Hever will face a stern contest from Keagan Fortune of the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The
