Lizzie McGuire turned 25 years old this week, but there\u2019s no need to live in the past. After some teasing<\/a>, Hilary Duff has dropped another single, off her upcoming album Luck \u2026or Something. <\/a><\/p>\n

Co-written by Duff, her husband, musician Matthew Koma, and Brian Phillips, \u201cRoommates\u201d is a pop stunner about losing the spark in a relationship. With razor-sharp lyrics and bright, synth-heavy production reminiscent of Taylor Swift\u2019s \u201cCruel Summer,\u201d it\u2019s easily one of her best songs in years. \u201cI only want the beginning, I don\u2019t want the end\/I want the part where you say goddamn,\u201d she sings. \u201cBack of a dive bar\/Giving you head\/Then sneak home late\/Wake up your roommates.\u201d<\/p>\n

The video above, directed by Matty Peacock, features Duff alongside a partner she\u2019s drifting apart from. It begins to rain as she makes a run for it, reminding us of her \u201cCome Clean<\/a>\u201d days. How did we make it<\/a> 10 years without any new music?<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Roommates\u2019 is a song about when life is life-ing, babe,\u201d says<\/a> Hilary. \u201cIt\u2019s that ache for a wilder, freer time \u2014 before the days were swallowed by carpools, budget talks, grocery runs and letting old or new insecurities slip in. It\u2019s the restless hum of wanting to find your way back \u2014 to your rhythm, to your person, to yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luck \u2026or Something, out Feb. 20 via Atlantic, marks Duff\u2019s first new album<\/a> since 2015\u2019s Breathe In. Breathe Out. \u201cRoommates\u201d follows her return single \u201cMature<\/a>,\u201d which arrived back in November<\/a>. Shortly after, she announced the Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour<\/a>, which sold-out immediately (if you missed out on scoring tickets to those, don\u2019t worry: she\u2019s already teased more shows<\/a>). In May, she\u2019ll head to Las Vegas for a residency<\/a>. As a young Hilary once said, we can\u2019t wait.<\/a><\/p>\n
