Robbie Williams<\/a> has surprised released his new album \u2018BRITPOP<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

The record \u2013 his first in nearly a decade \u2013 was initially scheduled for release on October 10, but in September it was pushed to February 6 so as not to coincide with Taylor Swift\u2019s<\/a> \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Today (January 16), Williams has surprise-dropped the album three weeks early. In an Instagram video sharing the news, the pop star said: \u201cIt\u2019s been long enough. I\u2019ve decided that I wanna go now. It\u2019s been ages. Now, please, deploy, now, let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Williams admitted that he would love to beat<\/a> The Beatles<\/a>\u2018 record for Number One albums with \u2018BRITPOP\u2019.<\/p>\n

The former\u00a0Take That<\/a>\u00a0singer is currently tied on the same number of chart topping albums as The Fab Four, which currently stands at 15. If his new record goes to Number One when it drops on February 6, he will finally beat that record.<\/p>\n

When asked how he feels about the prospect, Williams told\u00a0The Scott Mills Breakfast Show\u00a0on\u00a0BBC Radio 2<\/a>: \u201cYeah I want that more than anything in my career right now, of course I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

His competition in this week\u2019s charts includes Sleaford Mods<\/a>, whose new album, \u2018The Demise of Planet X\u2019<\/a>, is also released today, as well as Olivia Dean<\/a>\u2018s \u2018The Art of Loving<\/a>\u2018, which currently claims the top spot.<\/p>\n

NME gave \u2018BRITPOP\u2019 three stars, in a review that reads<\/a>: \u201cHe\u2019s standing firm. Rather than neck a BuzzBall on a Lime Bike and do his take on \u2018Brat<\/a>\u2019, Robbie knows his game and has done a record for himself. An album to be remembered for? Probably not, but it\u2019s bold, it\u2019s a laugh, and he\u2019s done it his way. That\u2019s what makes him Robbie. For that alone, he\u2019ll live forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams previewed the record with the singles \u2018Rocket<\/a>\u2019, which\u00a0features guitar from\u00a0Black Sabbath<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Tony Iommi<\/a>,\u00a0\u2018Spies<\/a>\u2019, \u2018Human\u2019 and \u2018Pretty Face<\/a>\u2019, and\u00a0he also played the album in its entirety at a very intimate show<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Dingwalls\u00a0in London in October.<\/p>\n
