Three Melbourne teens have been arrested following an alleged home invasion in the city’s south-east this morning that left a 75-year-old man with minor injuries.

Investigators alleged three males armed with machetes broke into a Pound Road home in Hampton Park just after 3:30am today.

Police have called it an “opportunistic” crime and have alleged the trio broke a glass panel on the front door before entering the house and confronting one of the occupants, the 75-year-old, with a knife.

It is alleged the offenders then punched and kicked the man, before stealing his car keys and his car, a Holden Statesman.

Detectives said the man sustained minor injuries, while a 69-year-old woman, who was also home at the time, was uninjured.

‘Very concerning’

Acting Inspector Dale Maxwell said the car was located by police about half an hour after the incident in nearby Officer.

A 13-year-old from Casey, a 16-year-old from Casey and a 15-year-old from Greater Dandenong were arrested at the scene.

Acting Inspector Maxwell said two knives were also recovered by police.

He praised his colleagues’ response for “apprehending suspects so quickly”.

“[It’s] certainly very concerning, that’s why we are treating this so seriously.”

The acting inspector also praised the occupants of the home for not fighting back, “and allowing police to do the job as they are trained to do”.

“The victims are obviously traumatised. Physically, they will be OK, but we are providing them with support so they can recover,” he said.

Acting Inspector Maxwell said he expected the three teens would be charged with aggravated home invasion, theft of motor vehicle, and a number of weapons and assault charges this afternoon.

“Confrontation is rare; the overwhelming majority of offenders in situations like this are looking to steal a car and don’t want a confrontation with the home owners,” he said.

“We certainly recommend everyone lock their doors at night.”

Three Melbourne teens have been arrested following an alleged home invasion in the city’s south-east this morning that…

[4
45387,64,63,48,202769,19445,44,220277,220276,1158,2024,27077
post-417787","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-australia","tag-arrest","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-crime","tag-hampton-park","tag-home-invasion","tag-news","tag-operation-trinity","tag-pakenham-police","tag-police","tag-victoria-police","tag-youth-crime
["GET
