\u201cNational Lampoon\u2019s Vacation\u201d<\/a> star Beverly D\u2019Angelo has one unexpected regret from her early career: not appearing nude more often.<\/p>\n

While promoting her psychological thriller \u201cSleepwalker\u201d to Fox News Digital<\/a> earlier this month, the 74-year-old actress shared a piece of advice she would give her younger self. <\/p>\n

D\u2019Angelo, known for her role as Ellen Griswold, explained that she actually suggested going topless in the first \u201cNational Lampoon Vacation\u201d film after co-star Christie Brinkley<\/a> refused.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sure love the story, and it sounds like exactly where I\u2019d step in and say, \u2018Leave this girl alone,\u2019\u201d D\u2019Angelo said, talking about Brinkley\u2019s role as \u201cThe Girl in the Ferrari,\u201d in the 1983 flick.<\/p>\n

Brinkley, although a minor character, flirts with Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase<\/a>) during the family\u2019s disastrous road trip. She is known for the scene where she emerges from a hotel pool and tosses her bra at Clark.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer being topless really wasn\u2019t that pivotal to what was going on in the scene. But, I thought it really made a difference to see the little devoted wife say to her husband, \u2018OK, you want to have fun? I\u2019ll show you fun,\u2019 and then just strip off. I thought that was great. I thought it was really perfect,\u201d D\u2019Angelo explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I didn\u2019t have any qualms about it. And the pool was heated. In fact, I have to say, people ask me, \u2018What would you say to your younger self?\u2019 I would\u2019ve said, \u2018Do more nudity,\u2019\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Beyond the \u201cVacation\u201d franchise, D\u2019Angelo\u2019s movie career includes more serious roles in films like \u201cCoal Miner\u2019s Daughter,\u201d \u201cAnnie Hall\u201d and \u201cAmerican History X.\u201d She has also appeared in comedies like \u201cThe House Bunny,\u201d \u201cViolent Night\u201d and \u201cEvery Which Way but Loose.\u201d <\/p>\n

Off-screen, she shares twins Anton and Olivia with her former partner, Al Pacino<\/a>. Though she continues to act, she told People<\/a> in November that her family always came first, acknowledging that she may have been more successful if she hadn\u2019t started a family. \u201cIf I would have been more focused, maybe I would have had a bigger career, but I was focused on my kids, to tell you the truth,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSleepwalker,\u201d which D\u2019Angelo stars alongside Hayden Panettiere, came out on Jan. 9.
