Arsenal are not expected to be major players in the January market after their big spend in the recent summer transfer window. The Gunners have already added the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke to their ranks, as Andrea Berta seeks to reshape Mikel Arteta’s squad.

In recent Premier League seasons, Arsenal have been trailing behind powerhouses like Manchester City and Liverpool, but currently, they hold a six-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s side in this year’s title race. City, on the other hand, are bolstering their squad with new additions such as Antoine Semenyo and are set to announce the signing of Marc Guehi soon.

While Arteta’s team may not be in the market for immediate signings, that hasn’t put a stop to the swirling transfer rumours and speculation. With this in mind, football.london has delved into the latest Arsenal transfer news and gossip.

Arsenal plot Arda Guler swoop

ESPN reports that Arsenal are interested in securing Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler in the upcoming summer transfer window, as part of their long-term strategy to develop their squad. After splashing out more than £250m on new recruits in the summer, it’s suggested they’ll hold off until the season’s end before further strengthening their team.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are eyeing up Rodrigo Mendoza, a 20 year old midfielder from Elche, and Guler is another player they’re keeping tabs on. The Turkiye international seemed set to become a crucial part of Xabi Alonso’s squad this season, but his standing has slipped.

With Alonso leaving the Bernabeu, it remains to be seen how Guler will adapt under new coach Alvaro Arbeloa, although he did feature in the Copa del Rey loss at Albacete. It’s not anticipated that Arsenal will make any moves this month, unless an irresistible opportunity arises.

Arsenal ‘real contenders’ for emerging French talent

TeamTalk reports that Arsenal are ‘real contenders’ to sign rising French star Jeremy Jacquet amidst swirling rumours about his future. The Stade Rennais defender is fast becoming one of the most sought-after talents in French football, with the 20-year-old linked to several English clubs.

The report suggests Andrea Berta is closely monitoring the defender, while Sky Sports have mentioned Chelsea’s interest in the centre-back. The latter also indicates that Liam Rosenior’s team are nearing the signing of a new defender this month, so Arsenal could face stiff competition.

Rennes are reportedly keen to retain the player until the summer, which could work in Arsenal’s favour.

The latest Arsenal transfer news and speculation with just over two weeks until the January transfer window closes…

[563
3361,8311,163886,64,63,596,85
post-419099","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-football","tag-arsenal","tag-arsenal-transfer-news","tag-arsenal-transfer-rumours","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-football","tag-sports
["GET
