Mental Health Ireland is encouraging the establishment of the Connect Caf\u00e9 Movement in Connemara<\/p>\n
It brings people together for conversation and conviviality to counteract impersonal connections on phones and tech<\/p>\n
While a cup of tea or coffee may be available, the Connect Caf\u00e9 may not be a Caf\u00e9 as we understand it. The basic idea is that people would have a reason to come together regularly.<\/p>\n
The idea originated in America and was brought to Ireland 4 years ago, with the first branch in Balbriggan in Dublin.<\/p>\n
Connemara is seen as an where such an initiative could play an important role in the community; distance and rural isolation are associated with loneliness and the movement called Thrive wants to counter those factors this Christmas, and always.<\/p>\n
