(ABC Midwest &amp; Wheatbelt: Chloe Henville)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Gibbs said the fire could have easily spread to nearby shops in the same heritage building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Thank God it didn&#8217;t actually take off,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We&#8217;re talking about old buildings that are all joined together on a lovely main street, so [it is] very troubling to see.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Deceiving appearances<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police charged a 20-year-old Wilson man over all three incidents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He is due before the Perth Magistrates Court this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The store appeared to close after the fire.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Burn marks on bricks, below a boarded up door. (ABC News)<\/p>\n<p>Similar story, different town<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Back in the Wheatbelt, a convenience store in Northam, 35km north of York, was raided by police last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Transnational Serious and Organised Crime detectives allegedly found and seized a &#8220;large amount&#8221; of tobacco products, including vapes, from the store on Fitzgerald Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The shop was next door to a youth mental health facility.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A terrace store with a sign saying &quot;Lucky 7 Mini Mart&quot;.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/fd2132050e7bd993206d1df9fa0fb9ec.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Tobacco products were seized from a property next door to a youth mental health facility. (ABC Midwest &amp; Wheatbelt: Chloe Henville)<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Outside problems&#8217; in country towns<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Shire of Northam president Chris Antonio said alleged illicit tobacco vendors surfacing in regional areas were bringing &#8220;outside problems&#8221; with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It puts the members of the community at risk.
