Piastri was in 2022 falsely announced by Alpine as its permanent driver for the 2023 season \u2014 a claim the Melburnian denied over social media.<\/p>\n
He was ultimately proven right in a messy contract saga, and was clear to sign for McLaren, where he has now claimed several Grand Prix race wins, and was only narrowly defeated to the 2025 drivers\u2019 championship by teammate Lando Norris.<\/p>\n
Alpine, by contrast, finished dead last with just 22 points for the entire season \u2014 48 points less than Kick Sauber in ninth. <\/p>\n
The Google ad plays on just how satisfied Piastri is about his decision to jump ship. <\/p>\n
It starts with a deadpan Piastri saying: \u201cI know I don\u2019t always show it, but winning does excite me.\u201d<\/p>\n
It then shows Piastri walking into a room as two people replace a picture of alpine mountains with a painting of a papaya \u2014 which is the colour of McLaren. <\/p>\n
His voiceover says: \u201cSo when I see a chance to get ahead, I will change things up.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, why would you want anything less than the best?\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Piastri spoke last week about his 2025 and the lessons he has learnt with the new season set to start in Melbourne in March. <\/p>\n
\u201cObviously there were a few moments I\u2019d rather have again \u2013 or rather not have \u2013 but I think on the whole, I\u2019m very proud of what I was able to achieve,\u201d he told Channel 9.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are plenty of lessons learned, both good and bad, to take into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also addressed McLaren\u2019s controversial papaya rules in which the team tries to create a level playing field between its two drivers through a series of interventions, or noninterventions, depending on the nature of the incident. <\/p>\n
Piastri claimed that for all the external noise, the internal discussions are always \u201ca smaller deal than what it gets made out to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cBut yeah, we\u2019ve got our ways of going racing and it\u2019s constantly evolving. We\u2019ll do a review and we already have reviewed. Do we want to do things exactly the same? Do we want to change things a bit? We\u2019ll get a handle on that fully before we go racing again.<\/p>\n
