Adelaide young gun Dan Curtin has suffered a suspected dislocated kneecap at pre-season training but there is hope he has avoided a dreaded ACL injury.

The 20-year-old went down in a wrestling drill, with doctors working on popping the kneecap back in on the field.

Curtin was then taken from the field on the back of a medicab.

“The typical recovery time for a regular kneecap dislocation is 6-8 weeks,” 7NEWS Melbourne’s Xander McGuire reported.

“However, if there is bone or cartilage damage the recovery will be longer and more complex.

“But, it’s believed his ACL is in tact. Curtin has been sent for scans and further assessment.”

Curtin played all 25 games for the Crows last year as they finished top of the ladder before a disappointing straight-sets finals exit.

But he could now be sidelined for some time, though it will be a relief if he has avoided become the league’s latest ACL victim after Jackson Archer (North Melbourne) and Jesse Motlop (Carlton) over the past 10 days.

Curtin, runner-up in last year’s Rising Star award, has stepped up plans to feature as an inside midfielder after returning to pre-season with added strength.

“It’s definitely a large ceiling,” teammate Ben Keays said late last year.

“Wary of building him up too much but super impressive guy.

“I was lucky enough to take him in and he lived with me a couple of years ago. It’s really cool to see his growth.”

In November Curtin was joined in the AFL by younger brother Cody, a 200cm key-position prospect picked up by reigning premiers Brisbane.

“He’s over the moon as well, just for me being able to fulfil my dream of becoming an AFL footballer,” Cody said.

“He’s really excited to see that come true for me.”
