Your air guitar has probably gotten pretty good.<\/p>\n

Your attempts to match Dave Grohl’s guttural screams may have attracted some of the neighbourhood’s cats.<\/p>\n

And no doubt you have been working on your cardio in preparation to mosh for one of Foo Fighters’ renowned three-hour long sets.<\/p>\n

But Saturday night’s concert at York Park is also throwing some logistical spanners in the proverbial works for Launceston, so there are a few things you need to know.<\/p>\n

Are you one of the 24,000 people with a ticket?<\/p>\n

Those with tickets were given the heads up this week about what the admission price does and does not allow them to do.<\/p>\n

There is advice that is standard for concerts of this size, which may be a new experience for Tasmanians who have never had such an opportunity in their home state.<\/p>\n

The gates will open at 5pm and you are encouraged to arrive early and enter only via the gate specified on your ticket. For those needing accessible seating, staff will be on hand to help.<\/p>\n

While camping outside the venue is prohibited, you are welcome to line up early to ensure you get a good view of the concert.<\/p>\n

However, you are advised to not bring chairs, pillows, umbrellas or mattresses to make your wait more comfortable as you cannot bring those into the venue.<\/p>\n

You will also not be allowed to bring a bag bigger than an A4 sheet of paper into the venue, and there is no bag storage or cloakroom inside.<\/p>\n

Crucially, you are also not allowed to bring water bottles into the arena, but there are multiple water stations, and food and other drink options, situated around the grounds.<\/p>\n

It is expected to be a hot day for Launceston \u2014 pushing into the high 20s, so you should plan to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated throughout the day as well.<\/p>\n

Road closures and car parking<\/p>\n

The Launceston City Council has advised that several roads and car parks in the York Park area will be closed across the weekend.<\/p>\n

Invermay Road between Forster and Lindsay streets will be closed from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday morning, and the northern Inveresk car park will be closed from Friday night until Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

There will also be road closures from the Holbrook Street ends of Dry Street, Bedford Street, Russell Street, Gleadow Street, Robertson Street and Windsor Street.<\/p>\n

People who live on the closed streets will be allowed access, but you will need to show your driver’s licence with your street address.<\/p>\n

The southern Inveresk car park will only be available for concertgoers from midday Saturday until 6am Sunday, and parking in the area on Invermay Road will be closed for 24 hours from 6am Saturday.<\/p>\n

Parking will also be available in the CBD car parks, which will remain open overnight, as well as at the Churchill Park sports complex.<\/p>\n

Accommodation close to sold out across city<\/p>\n

Ideally, however, you will have nabbed accommodation within walking distance of the stadium and will not need to think about parking.<\/p>\n

But if you have not yet secured accommodation you may be in trouble.<\/p>\n

The remaining listings available online have hotel rooms listed for hundreds of dollars, and one for more than $2,000.<\/p>\n

Or, there is a one-bedroom house you could book if you would like to spend more than $3,500 for the night.<\/p>\n

However, Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood did warn you to not leave that until this week.<\/p>\n

“I would recommend absolutely if you’re looking at tickets, looking at your accommodation, look where you’re going to go out and don’t leave it until the last minute,” he said when the concert was announced.<\/p>\n

And if you are flying into Launceston from interstate for the show, there will be a bus to get you to the city from the airport.<\/p>\n

Although a permanent airport bus service for Launceston was pledged at last year’s election, it is not yet in place.<\/p>\n

SkyBus is running a “special event service” from Thursday to Monday, to meet demand from Foo Fighters ticket holders. Bus tickets can be purchased online.<\/p>\n

‘Anticipation is building’<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, the concert sold out very quickly when tickets went on sale last month.<\/p>\n

Promoter Frontier Touring said the tickets sold out in “record time”.<\/p>\n

“Foo Fighters’ sold-out show will be their first performance in Tasmania since 2015, and their first ever in the city of Launceston,” the promoter said.<\/p>\n

“Anticipation is building for the largest influx of concertgoers Launceston, and Tasmania, has ever seen.”\"Dave<\/p>\n

Tasmania to pay $650,000 for Foo Fighters concert <\/a><\/p>\n

Tasmania’s “biggest concert ever” will take place at Launceston’s York Park next month when American rock band Foo Fighters play their only Australian show.<\/p>\n

Through Stadiums Tasmania, the state government and Launceston City Council paid $650,000 to host the one-off show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the time, government minister Eric Abetz said he expected the state’s investment to have an “11 to 1 return” for the state and the city.<\/p>\n

When he announced the show in a post on Facebook, Premier Jeremy Rockliff said it would be Tasmania’s “biggest concert ever”.<\/p>\n
