The Devils<\/a> are dealing with another major Hughes injury.<\/p>\n

Luke Hughes<\/a> suffered a shoulder injury in the second period of his team\u2019s 2-1 overtime victory over the Calgary Flames Monday night.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old left shot defenseman exited the game halfway through the second period. He did not return. NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the initial diagnosis was a dislocated shoulder for Hughes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill await word from Devils postgame and potential timeline as he continues to be evaluated,\u201d Seravalli wrote on X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Coach Sheldon Keefe<\/a> provided an update on Hughes after the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is going to have to get evaluated,\u201d said Keefe. \u201cHe is going to miss time, for sure. We won\u2019t see him for the rest of his road trip. We will get him evaluated and determine the length of time from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Devils face the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. The team has seven defensemen on its roster, including Hughes. They have three games remaining on their Western road trip.<\/p>\n

Watch for Johnathan Kovacevic \u2014 who did not play Monday \u2014 to rejoin the lineup on Tuesday. A defenseman will likely have to play on their off side.<\/p>\n
