VANCOUVER \u2014 Adam Foote<\/a> has seen enough. <\/p>\n

The Vancouver Canucks<\/a> head coach is tired of his players getting frustrated and letting their play slip.<\/p>\n

Yes, the team is mired in an extended losing skid, but the Stanley Cup-winning defenceman knows a defeatist attitude won\u2019t help things. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been watching this for too long,\u201d Foote said Monday after the Canucks fell 4-3 to the New York Islanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to stop burning ourselves by getting frustrated. We\u2019ve got to stay within the plan. The plan\u2019s working. And it\u2019s our vets. They\u2019ve got to hang in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The problem has plagued the team for years, he said \u2014 even before he came to Vancouver as an assistant coach to Rick Tocchet<\/a>. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s a bad call \u2014 or the opponent scores first \u2014 and players begin slamming the gate to the bench, making bad changes or overcomplicating their game.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to get out of our culture,\u201d Foote said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt just gets us off our game … and allows other teams to get just a little bit of energy and come back in the game. It\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to stop.\u201d <\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s loss extended Vancouver\u2019s winless streak to 11 games (0-9-2) and marked the team\u2019s ninth-straight defeat in regulation. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a difficult season for the Canucks (16-28-5) as they linger at the very bottom of the NHL standings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re fighting hard. It\u2019s a tough go,\u201d said defenceman Marcus Pettersson<\/a>. \u201dWhen you go through a losing streak, you kind of find ways to lose, right? But I think we can\u2019t stop up and feel sorry for ourselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think our effort was there tonight. And, yeah, unfortunate result.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was a glimmer of hope against the Islanders, starting with Max Sasson<\/a>\u2019s goal 2:49 into the first period, which gave the home side an early 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Evander Kane<\/a> put the team up 2-1 with his eighth goal of the season before the end of the opening frame.<\/p>\n

Vancouver then floundered in the second, giving up two goals over 88 seconds, and couldn\u2019t recover in the third, despite a late goal from Drew O\u2019Connor. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn my opinion, our game plan worked so well. We had a ton of energy,\u201d Foote said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a call doesn\u2019t go our way or if they get the first goal or the second, we cannot go rogue. We cannot get the defeated feeling and get frustrated. That lingers here. If they want to win and get more consistent, they\u2019ve got to get it out. And that starts with our vets.\u201d <\/p>\n

Asked how he solves the problem, the coach had a simple answer \u2014 tell his players to cut it out. <\/p>\n

They\u2019ve already had ample talks, Foote said, but the problem persists.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t do it a lot at the start of the season and it\u2019s lingering back. And we\u2019re going to stop it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe can\u2019t do it to ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE<\/p>\n

Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin affirmed his trust in Foote and the coaching staff Monday. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am satisfied with the way they\u2019re working. And I think it\u2019s hard to really evaluate how we\u2019re playing,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI know one thing \u2014 the players in there, the coaches, they really care. I don\u2019t think they\u2019re happy winning four home games. They want to provide winning hockey for our fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

ROOKIE ON A RUN<\/p>\n

Defenceman Matthew Schaefer<\/a> contributed a pair of assists for New York, earning his 33rd and 34th points of the season. <\/p>\n

The No. 1 pick in last summer\u2019s draft has 13 goals and 21 points in 49 games, and is tied with Tim Connolly<\/a> for the most points in a single season by an 18-year-old in Islanders history. <\/p>\n
