With most late-night hosts on holiday, Seth Meyers<\/a> mocked Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s secondhand Nobel peace prize and his incoherent logic for taking over Greenland.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers returned to the Late Night desk on Monday evening \u2013 Martin Luther King Jr Day in the US, for which other late-night shows remained on break \u2013 with a quick rundown of yet another weekend of unfathomably stupid updates from the White House.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the past few days, Trump \u201cthreatened to invade Greenland, which is a part of Denmark, because he didn\u2019t win the Nobel peace prize<\/a>, which he thinks is decided by Norway, which it\u2019s not\u201d, Meyers said. \u201cFor more on this, it\u2019s time for \u2018Seth Rubs His Temples and Tries to Dissociate for 15 Minutes.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThe news has once again gotten dumber and more exhausting,\u201d he continued. \u201cJust another day living in Donald Trump\u2019s snow globe, where the snow is cocaine and it never stops shaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica\u2019s been through a lot over the years, but the one thing we\u2019ve mercifully never had to deal with was a president who had a boner for winning awards,\u201d he added. \u201cYou\u2019re the president of the United States \u2013 that should be reward enough! This guy gets elected, and his next thought is \u2018better make room in the trophy case.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Trump exhibited a \u201cdesperate craving for awards\u201d, particularly the Nobel peace prize \u2013 a snub he somehow connects to Greenland<\/a>, though the Nobel committee in fact exists in Norway and has nothing to do with the semi-autonomous territory managed by Denmark.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be this hard to make sense of what the president says and does on a daily basis,\u201d Meyers noted after a clip of one news anchor trying to connect the dots. \u201cFollowing Trump\u2019s logic is like getting way too high and staring at a magic eye poster. But then it turns out it\u2019s not even a magic eye poster, there\u2019s no hidden image, it\u2019s just a bunch of random letters. Turns out it\u2019s an eye chart and you\u2019re just totally baked at Warby Parker again.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an open letter to the Norwegian prime minister, Trump claimed he should have won the peace prize because he \u201cstopped 8 wars PLUS\u201d and used the snub as justification for his threats to take over Greenland, because \u201cthe world is not secure unless we have complete and total control of Greenland\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love that he\u2019s basically saying, \u2018Here\u2019s how important Greenland is. If you\u2019d given me a shiny new medal, I would have let you have it,\u2019\u201d Meyers responded.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, \u2018you didn\u2019t give me the Nobel peace prize, so now I have to invade another country\u2019 is an insane thing to say,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s like if I said to my kids, \u2018You didn\u2019t get me a World\u2019s #1 Dad coffee mug, so I\u2019m moving to Thailand to blow your inheritance, Sam Rockwell in White Lotus style.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ruckus escalated on Friday, when the actual recipient of the Nobel peace prize, the Venezuelan opposition leader Mar\u00eda Corina Machado<\/a>, gave her medal to Trump in an attempt to curry favor with the man who authorized the arrest of President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and claims to be the \u201cacting president\u201d of Venezuela. (The Nobel committee, for what it\u2019s worth, is not happy about it<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u201cHe actually accepted<\/a> a secondhand Nobel peace prize \u2013 with someone else\u2019s name on it,\u201d Meyers laughed. \u201cThat\u2019s like if John Oliver offered me one of his Last Week Tonight Emmys, and I accepted it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taken together, Meyers only saw an absolute mess. \u201cWe used to be a country of laws and norms and independent agencies, co-equal branches of government,\u201d he concluded. \u201cIt was imperfect, it was flawed, but the president had to operate within a system. His impulses were constrained.
