\n\tNaomi Osaka<\/a> stepped up to the service line in a custom Nike<\/a> and Robert Wun<\/a> tennis<\/a> kit for her first round match at the 2026 Australian Open on Tuesday in Melbourne, Australia. The four-time grand slam champion defeated Antonia Ru\u017ei\u0107 of Croatia in a three-set battle.<\/p>\n

\n\tOsaka turned to her longtime partner Nike<\/a> for this sea-inspired look, with nods to a previous Australian Open showing. The athlete\u2019s tennis<\/a> kit consisted of a turquoise tie-dye and green racerback tennis dress. Osaka\u2019s grand entrance for her first round also featured dramatic elements, including a white, wide-brim hat with a sheer veil.<\/p>\n

\n\tTiered palazzo pants featured beneath the hemline of her turquoise tennis dress, with pleating throughout. Osaka also carried a white umbrella with varying panel proportions. During her on-court warm-ups, Osaka donned a zip-up jacket with organic, wavy tendrils hanging from the sleeves.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough the entire look evoked a jellyfish, small white butterflies could also be glimpsed on the athlete\u2019s apparel and accessories \u2014 a reference to Osaka\u2019s 2021 Australian Open tennis match when the athlete moved a butterfly that landed on her face off the court.<\/p>\n

\n\tOsaka spoke about her look following her victory over Ru\u017ei\u0107, giving couturier Robert Wun a nod for the design and revealing she too contributed to her 2026 Australian Open tennis kit. \u201cNike let me design this one, it\u2019s modeled after a jellyfish. I\u2019m so grateful that I get to do the things that I love,\u201d Osaka said during the interview. \u201cIt\u2019s really beautiful, and shoutout to Robert Wun for doing this for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe grand slam champion signed with Nike in 2019 and has since developed a close relationship with the brand when it comes to the design of her on-court looks. At the 2025 U.S. Open<\/a>, Osaka followed a flower theme, wearing a custom red rose tennis kit with a bubble hem skirt and sparkly, sequin-encrusted top.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong her four grand slam titles, Osaka has won the Australian Open in both 2019 and 2021. The athlete, who welcomed her daughter in July 2023, returned to the sport in January 2024 with a fresh perspective on the game, explaining her newfound attitude to WWD in August 2024. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThings I used to take for granted when I was younger, I can\u2019t afford to do that now,\u201d Osaka told WWD. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible how much work goes into being a tennis player. Maybe I didn\u2019t know that before. But now I\u2019m definitely realizing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 2026 Australian Open kicked off its main draw matches on Jan. 17, with finals concluding the grand slam tournament on Feb. 1.
