The Sydney Sixers are sweating on the fitness of superstar fast bowler Mitchell Starc following Tuesday evening\u2019s Qualifier loss to the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Scorchers secured hosting rights for Sunday\u2019s Big Bash final after defeating the Sixers by 48 runs in the West Australian capital<\/a>, with the Sydney-based franchise set to face either the Melbourne Stars or Hobart Hurricanes in Friday\u2019s Challenger.<\/p>\n

However, the Sixers face a nervous wait to see whether Starc will be available for the must-win clash after the 35-year-old hurt his shoulder while fielding on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

During the third over of the Scorchers\u2019 innings, Starc lunged to his left while attempting a catch at mid-wicket and landed awkwardly on the surface, clutching his left shoulder and grimacing as he returned to his feet. He spent several minutes stretching and massaging his shoulder after the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not looking good,\u201d former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket commentary.<\/p>\n

Starc, who bowled a further three overs and finished with figures of 2-32, brushed aside concerns about his shoulder during the innings break.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m alright, just stretched it a bit,\u201d he told Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

\u201cOld boy\u2019s not moving as quick as I was ten years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Sixers captain Moises Henriques cast some doubt over Starc\u2019s fitness while speaking to reporters after the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes with these types of injuries, they can get worse once you cool down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re kind of hoping that\u2019s not the case, but we\u2019ll see. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been magnificent for us. Like his attitude around the group\u2019s fantastic, and he wants to play, so I\u2019m hoping he\u2019s good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starc, who received the prestigious Compton\u2013Miller Medal for player of this summer\u2019s Ashes series, has taken seven wickets at 14.00 since joining the Sixers camp last week, including career-best BBL figures of 4-35 against the Brisbane Heat.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an absolute beast,\u201d Henriques continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone can do it, it\u2019s going to be him. But we don\u2019t want to put him at risk for his future commitments.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, I know he\u2019ll be wanting to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starc, who retired from T20Is last year, will not feature in next month\u2019s T20 World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, but he is expected to represent the Delhi Capitals in this year\u2019s Indian Premier League.<\/p>\n

The Sixers will host either the Stars or the Hurricanes at the SCG, with the first ball scheduled for 7.15pm AEDT.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just gutting,\u201d Henriques added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have such a good first half of the game, you\u2019re playing away from home, you\u2019ve got an opportunity to host a final, and you know you can do so much better than what personally, for me, I know I can do so much better than what I did tonight. I\u2019m sure there are plenty of other guys in our sheds feeling the exact same way.<\/p>\n
