Denis Villeneuve<\/a> is famed for directing several sci-fi masterpieces, which have continued to define and redefine the genre. Ten years ago, the Canadian filmmaker and Dune director helmed yet another sci-fi special in Arrival<\/a>, which has since gone on to stand the test of time. The film, which also brought together two veteran actors of the superhero genre, premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2016. Courtesy of Paramount Pictures, that same year, on November 11, it was released theatrically in the US. Jeremy Renner<\/a>, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU<\/a>, starred alongside Amy Adams<\/a>, who played Lois Lane in the Snyderverse era of the DCEU<\/a>, in the film, which was a modern sci-fi classic that revisited a familiar trope. Arrival is streaming for free now, but time is running out.<\/p>\n

Arrival is currently streaming for free on Tubi as fans in the US have been able to revisit the Oscar-nominated 2016 sci-fi drama<\/a> for some time now. However, that pleasure is nearing its climax as the drama has been listed on Tubi’s “Leaving Soon” page. For those interested in catching up on the action of aliens<\/a> invading the earth, the time is now, as Tubi does not give exact dates as to when movies will leave the platform. With that in mind, a calculated guess will suggest late January to early February in order to make room for new titles arriving on the platform. As one of the most impressive sci-fi entries<\/a> of its generation, Arrival is worth another binge on Tubi before it departs.<\/p>\n

A commercial and critical success upon its premiere and ever since, Arrival holds an impressive 94% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, 82% audience score, and 7.9\/10 ratings on IMDb<\/a>. These numbers are a testament to the film’s perfect combination of grounded emotional storytelling and science fiction. With Villeneuve in the director’s chair, the film is based on the Ted Chiang novella Story of Your Life. The sci-fi’s intriguing plot is thanks to Eric Heisserer<\/a>, who wrote the screenplay. Serving on the project as producers were Shawn Levy<\/a>, Dan Levine, Aaron Ryder, and David Linde.<\/p>\n

‘Arrival’ Was a Commercial and Critical Success<\/p>\n

Spurred on by its commercial success,<\/a> which saw the film earn a worldwide haul of $203 million against a modest production budget of $47 million, alongside a positive critical reception. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Villeneuve’s Arrival sees Adams portray Linguistics professor Louise Banks, who leads an elite team of investigators on a fact-finding mission when gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. Louise and physicist Ian Donnelly (Renner) are recruited by the US military to translate the language of a pair of alien Heptapods from the ship, who experience time non-linearly<\/a>. The sci-fi boasts a stellar cast which also includes Forest Whitaker<\/a> as Colonel Weber, Michael Stuhlbarg as Agent Halpern, Mark O’Brien as Captain Marks, and Tzi Ma as General Shang, among others.<\/p>\n
