\nMartin Short recounted his time at Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s September wedding during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Jan. 21The actor shared that the wedding was “beautiful” and “perfect” until he made a major faux pasGomez, who stars on Only Murders in the Building with Short, and Blanco tied the knot on Sept. 27 in Santa Barbara, Calif.<\/p>\n
Martin Short<\/a> is spilling the wedding tea \u2014 and cake!\n<\/p>\n On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the comedian and actor, 75, appeared on the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a> where he revealed he almost ruined the nuptials of his Only Murders in the Building<\/a> costar Selena Gomez<\/a> and her husband Benny Blanco thanks to a food faux pas.\n<\/p>\n Gomez, 33, and Blanco, 37, tied the knot<\/a> in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sept. 27, with Short giving a joint speech with his and Gomez\u2019s fellow OMITB<\/a> cast member Steve Martin<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n \u201cThe wedding was perfect and it was beautiful … So everything was perfect except the night of the reception,\u201d Short said as he began his story.\n<\/p>\n “It was a big, big party … big tents and at the back of the tent where these individual seating areas with couches and chairs. So that if you had a group, like we had a group, Only Murders in the Building, there was about 12 of us,” he continued, adding that Paul Rudd<\/a> and his wife Julie were among those he was with.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cAnd there was a wedding cake by our section but it was a small wedding cake. I just assumed there was a wedding cake for each section in the back,” Short added, to laughs from the audience. “So after a few hours, they haven\u2019t cut their wedding cake yet, Steve [Martin] said said he was going to leave.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Short added while laughing, \u201cMaybe I\u2019d had a cocktail, I don\u2019t know. This was about an hour before it was to be presented. And so I turned to Paul Rudd and said, \u2018So, do we just leave?’ \u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then they called the wedding coordinator and then the chef came out,” he added.\n<\/p>\n Doing an impersonation of the chef, who Short said appeared to be French, Short said, \u201cHe was like, \u2018What the hell happened here?\u2019 \u201d\n<\/p>\n Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and Martin Short at the 2026 Golden Globes on Jan. 11, 2026.<\/p>\n Francis Specker\/CBS via Getty<\/p>\n “Then they did surgery but it ended up being like a Hollywood wedding cake and that it was beautiful but now it had a little work done,” he added to huge laughs from the audience.\n<\/p>\n A photo of Gomez \u2014 whom Short affectionately described as “extra child of mine” \u2014 and music producer Blanco then flashed up on the screen showing their cake turned at an angle and looking picture perfect.\n<\/p>\n “Steve was so stunned when I did that he gained color,” Short added.\n<\/p>\n He also light heartedly recalled of the moment, \u201cI kept saying, \u2018Guys, we can\u2019t let Selena know.\u2019 And Stephen (Steve Martin) said, \u2018Maybe we tell her in a month or so.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n The Rare Beauty<\/a>\u00a0founder and Blanco married in a dreamy ceremony wearing custom Ralph Lauren. Along with Short, Martin and Rudd, Gomez and Blanco other famous pals Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran were also among those in attendance.\n<\/p>\n Gomez announced the happy news on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0with the caption, “\ud83e\udd0d 9.27.25 \ud83e\udd0d” alongside a series of photos from their happy day.\n<\/p>\n
