Australian cricket icon David Warner has recommitted to the Sydney Thunder for another season, meaning he will play on in the Big Bash League past the age of 40.<\/p>\n

Warner is coming off a superb BBL campaign, finishing as the tournament\u2019s leading run-scorer (433 runs) and being named captain of the team of the tournament.<\/p>\n

Averaging 86.60 during the 2025-26 season, the former Australian Test opener has scored more than 400 runs in the past two seasons and notched up two centuries this month, with the veteran convinced he still has \u201cplenty more to give\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to commit to another season with Thunder,\u201d Warner said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was certainly a challenging year for us, we are a much better team than what we put on the field this season and were unable to put a consistent game together. But the support from our fans \u2013 turning up in numbers every game \u2013 it played a massive role in my decision to stay. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel I\u2019ve got plenty more to give to this team and to this game. I felt pretty comfortable with my performance and was proud to give the team a fighting chance. We\u2019ve already begun reviewing the season and putting the right plans in place to ensure we deliver a much stronger campaign in BBL16.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warner\u2019s extension means the Thunder have two roster spots to fill before the competition\u2019s contracting embargo comes into effect on January 27.<\/p>\n
