Kendric Davis\u2019 ability has never been in question. After all, he was the MVP runner-up last year on a team that managed only 13 wins from 29 games.<\/p>\n

But a change of environment seems to have brought out even more in the star point guard, with his influence on games, and his teammates, continuing to grow.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou naturally see the stuff that goes on social media, him coming in, and he\u2019s been completely different to what you\u2019ve heard of everything that happened in Adelaide,\u201d fellow Sydney King Tyler Robertson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a guy that after every game he texts me what I can do better, what I\u2019ve done great. And that sort of stuff is stuff that doesn\u2019t really get noticed and people don\u2019t know about it \u2026 and people don\u2019t need to know about it, but it\u2019s stuff like that that really shows his true character and true leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis has averaged an impressive 23 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6 assists on a team that\u2019s been battered by injuries to its stars and its leaders.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s made his experience even more vital in a time of need.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat leadership piece \u2026 he\u2019s getting the locker room. He\u2019s getting the guys with him and that\u2019s something that we talked about in coming here,\u201d coach Brian Goorjian said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe there\u2019s been more opportunity in that form with Delly (Matthew Dellavedova) being gone (injured), so it\u2019s not a shared thing, and also Xavier (Cooks).<\/p>\n

\u201cEven when I\u2019m putting the captain on the score sheet, I\u2019m looking and I\u2019m going the captain and the co-captain aren\u2019t there, so it falls on him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd since those guys have been out, we\u2019ve won a ton of games, and so you\u2019d have to point to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got the whole locker room. Everyone\u2019s got his back 100 per cent of the time,\u201d Robertson continued.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Davis\u2019 full bag of tricks was on show in Thursday\u2019s win over Tasmania, with a 40-piece leading the Kings to their ninth win in 11 games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat he was seen as when he came into this and what he\u2019s evolved to \u2026 he can score, he can get points when you need them, but he\u2019s also about distributing the ball, getting other guys involved in the game and us winning the game, as opposed to trying to win the scoring championship and trying to be the MVP,\u201d Goorjian said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that he\u2019s a hell of a player, a very special player, and I can\u2019t wait to see what he does in the future,\u201d Robertson added.<\/p>\n

Davis takes on his former teammates on Sunday, as the fourth-placed Kings face Adelaide at Qudos Bank Arena, live on ESPN and 10 from 2.30pm AEDT.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
