{"id":433166,"date":"2026-01-23T22:47:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T22:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/433166\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T22:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T22:47:10","slug":"warriors-still-pursuing-dream-trade-deadline-target-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/433166\/","title":{"rendered":"Warriors Still Pursuing &#8216;Dream Trade Deadline Target&#8217;: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-1407943033-e1769166023658.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Warriors, Warriors trade, Warriors trade deadline, Trey Murphy III\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Steve Kerr (L) and governor Joe Lacob of the Golden State Warriors look on during a game between the Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs during the 2022 NBA Summer League at the Thomas Mack Center on July 10, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. <\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/\" title=\"Golden State Warriors\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"150294\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golden State Warriors<\/a> have reportedly not given up on their pursuit of Trey Murphy III, even as the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"New Orleans Pelicans\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/new-orleans-pelicans\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"150292\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Orleans Pelicans<\/a> signal to the league that their 3-and-D wing is not available ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Per <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/esidery\/status\/2014361346121388231\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">insider Evan Sidery<\/a>, the Warriors\u2019 interest in Murphy has only intensified since Jimmy Butler III suffered a season-ending ACL injury on MLK Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Warriors continue to covet Trey Murphy III as their dream trade deadline target,\u201d Sidery reported via X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven after Jimmy Butler\u2019s torn ACL, Golden State would love to add Murphy into their core.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGolden State can offer the Pelicans Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and multiple 1st-round picks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pelicans Set High Asking Price<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clutchpoints.com\/nba\/nba-stories\/jonathan-kuminga-giannis-ja-morant-headline-latest-nba-trade-deadline-intel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">ClutchPoints\u2019 Brett Siegel<\/a> also reported on Thursday that the Warriors have \u201cmade several calls\u201d to the Pelicans about Murphy this season, and he remains their \u201cdream scenario\u201d outside of landing a superstar player like Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026The Pelicans have fielded calls for Murphy from multiple teams, which has led many to believe they simply haven\u2019t received their asking price of multiple first-round picks and a young player or two,\u201d Siegel wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Warriors have a full arsenal of draft picks that could be utilized for a player like Murphy, and Dunleavy even alluded to such a decision when addressing whether Golden State would sacrifice such valuable assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warriors Trade Deadline Plans<\/p>\n<p>Further to Siegel\u2019s point, Warriors GM <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/mike-dunleavy\/\" title=\"Mike Dunleavy\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"150296\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Dunleavy<\/a> made it clear after Butler\u2019s injury that the franchise would be open to moving their draft assets for an \u201cimpactful\u201d player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our picks always will be and have been in play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo give up our picks, it\u2019s got to be meaningful to get something back. We\u2019re looking at everything,\u201d Dunleavy stated. \u201cI think if we\u2019re talking about trading draft picks that will be going out when Steph isn\u2019t here, it\u2019s going to have to be a player that we think will be here when those picks are going out. And that player is going to have to be pretty impactful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there is a great player to be had, we got everything in the war chest that we\u2019d be willing to use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An earlier report from Siegel suggested that the Warriors would be willing to part with two first-rounders for Murphy, but won\u2019t offer such a haul for <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Brooklyn Nets\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/brooklyn-nets\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"150293\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Nets<\/a> star Michael Porter Jr., another player they\u2019ve been strongly linked to.<\/p>\n<p>The Warriors will be armed with up to four tradeable first-rounders if they hold onto all their assets through the Feb. 5 trade deadline. With Antetokounmpo possibly becoming available this offseason, the Warriors front office surely has a lot to ponder.<\/p>\n<p>Trey Murphy, on a cap-friendly average salary of $28M through 2028-29, is tallying a career-high 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 49\/38\/89 shooting splits.
