He’ll be assessed by the medical team on Friday.

Nico Gonzalez (unknown issue) also looks set to miss out for the fourth successive competitive game.

“Matheus Nunes still has the virus, I don’t know what the doctor will say this afternoon. Nico, uh-uh, I don’t think so.” – Pep Guardiola

John Stones (thigh), Oscar Bobb (hamstring), Ruben Dias (hamstring), Josko Gvardiol (leg), Mateo Kovacic (ankle) and Savinho (thigh) are all still sidelined.

It may get worse, too.

In the embargoed section of Friday’s presser, Guardiola said that Jeremy Doku and Nathan Ake “could not play” in Bodo after the warm-up, hence their lack of midweek minutes off the bench.

“Do you think Doku would not play in Bodo if he would be fit? Do you think Ake would not play in Bodo if he would be fit? They warmed up, they could not play. We have 11 players out.” – Pep Guardiola

Phil Foden is at least usable – he started in midweek despite breaking bones in his hand – and now Bernardo Silva, Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo return, having either been suspended or ineligible to feature in Europe.

Guardiola indeed said that Guehi will make his debut on Saturday.

“Yes.

“Really good [signing]. Considering the absence of central defenders, it’s really good.” – Pep Guardiola on whether Marc Guéhi will make his debut tomorrow

CHELSEA

Cole Palmer was back in training on Friday after missing Wednesday’s win over Pafos as a precaution.

“Cole is in a good place, he joined training today which is really positive. We’ll assess his reaction to training.” – Liam Rosenior

However, it’s clear all is not completely well with the England international.

“There was frustration in the Brentford game, not because he wasn’t happy here, just because he couldn’t perform. He was in pain. He couldn’t perform to the level he wanted to do for the club. He’s a great kid and he’s an outstanding player, but we have to make sure that we look after him in the right way. That’s why I didn’t involve him in the last game.

“I think, not just in terms of Cole, there’s a number of players in our group that we have to look after in a different way and not just force them out not to perform. I’ve got trust in the group. I’ve rotated with the squad and I’ll continue to do that because I want us to be involved at the end of the season in big games and big competitions. At the moment we’re in January. I want to make sure the players come through this period with wins but in full health and Cole’s one of those players.” – Liam Rosenior on Cole Palmer

Filip Jorgensen was subbed off at half-time in that midweek match but his injury is not as serious as first feared and he could even be back next week.

“Jorgensen had his scan, which is actually quite positive and not as bad as first feared. He won’t be available for Palace but could be potentially for Napoli.” – Liam Rosenior

Tosin Adarabioyo (hamstring) is out for “weeks”, joining Romeo Lavia (quad) and Levi Colwill (knee) on the sidelines. Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended) also remains unavailable.

Not long after returning from his last lay-off, Dario Essugo has rejoined the injury list after “slipping” in training. He’ll be out for a month.

The likes of Liam Delap, Estevao, Enzo Fernandez and Jamie Gittens have been ill over the last fortnight but the Blues appear to be through the wave of sickness in the camp.

“In terms of sickness, the players are coming back gradually to full health. We had to be very careful with that. Estevao was very ill, Jamie Gittens was very ill. That altered our plans over the week in terms of what we wanted to do. Thankfully the lads have come through that. Enzo as well.” – Liam Rosenior

ARSENAL

Mikel Arteta confirmed that there were no fresh concerns from the midweek win over Inter.

“After the Inter game, we have no issues reported.” – Mikel Arteta

Piero Hincapie (muscle) and Riccardo Calafiori (muscle) could also be back, too: they were spotted in training on Friday. Arteta said “we’ll see” when asked if they could feature against Manchester United.

“We still have another training session, so we’ll see tomorrow after that – to assess everybody and make a decision first of all in the squad.” – Mikel Arteta

Max Dowman (ankle) is the only other known absentee.

LIVERPOOL

Having sat out the midweek win over Marseille, it sounds like Ibrahima Konate will miss out again at Bournemouth due to personal reasons.

Konate is back in France following the death of his father.

“Yeah, I spoke to him a few times. I think these are private matters and they should stay between us but it’s very obvious that if something like that happens, then a player needs time to be there for his family and also time for himself.” – Arne Slot on Ibrahima Konate

Alexander Isak (ankle), Conor Bradley (knee), Giovanni Leoni (knee), Stefan Bajcetic (hamstring) and Jayden Danns (hamstring) remain out.

Federico Chiesa, who wasn’t fit enough to feature at the Stade Velodrome, is “50/50”, meanwhile.

“As I said, Federico wasn’t able to be on the bench on Wednesday. Then there was a recovery session yesterday, so we have to wait and see today. It’s difficult for me to say if he’s available for Bournemouth. We don’t expect him to be out for long, so it could be 50/50, maybe, if he’s available for tomorrow.” – Arne Slot on Federico Chiesa

As it stands, Slot has no fresh concerns for Saturday.

“For the rest, at this moment in time, no one picked up a knock, no one had a problem after the game. Sometimes when you start training again, you can feel something, but I expect all the same players to be available for tomorrow.” – Arne Slot

After 90 minutes for Mohamed Salah in midweek, the Liverpool boss wouldn’t be drawn on whether the Egyptian would start against the Cherries.

“Knowing Mo, he’s ready to play tomorrow, because he’s shown that so many times in his career, but he like all the others have a training session to go and then I will decide on the line-up for tomorrow.” – Arne Slot on Mohamed Salah

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Despite hobbling off in the midweek win over PSV Eindhoven, Bruno Guimaraes (ankle) could yet make Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

“We hope it’s not serious. The extent of the injury is still unknown but he was reasonably positive after the game. He is the guy that will never rule anything out, so we’ll give him every chance for this weekend. Let’s wait and see.

“We’ll always try and make the right decisions, as we do with every player, depending on need and circumstances, to protect them long term but also to help the team if they need to play. We’ll try and get that right with Bruno. He is a pivotal player, I’ve always said he’s been the match-winner for us so many times over the years. He’s an inspirational figure, so we need him, but of course, we need him fit and available and able to perform to his best levels. So, we’ll try and make all the calculations and come up with the right decision.

“We’ll try and figure out all avenues if he isn’t available but we hope he can make it.” – Eddie Howe on Bruno Guimaraes

Dan Burn (rib) could “possibly” be involved. He and Will Osula (ankle) returned to training this week after medium-term lay-offs.

“Possibly. I think with Dan, as you saw around the Champions League game, he is out [training] with the players. Today, possibly the first day where he’s training fully with the group, taking contact. That’ll be the key thing for him. I think he’s desperate to get back involved, so that’s a great sign.” – Eddie Howe on whether Dan Burn could feature

Fabian Schar (ankle), Jacob Murphy (hamstring), Emil Krafth (knee) and Tino Livramento (hamstring) all remain sidelined.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Daniel Munoz (knee) has been back in training this week, while Ismaila Sarr has returned from international duty.

“Daniel Munoz came back at the beginning of the week, Ismaila Sarr came back an AFCON winner from Senegal.” – Oliver Glasner

Rio Cardines (groin), Daichi Kamada (hamstring), Cheick Doucoure (knee), Caleb Kporha (back) and Eddie Nketiah (hamstring) have been out for some time.

Having already lost Marc Guehi to Manchester City, rumours suggest that Jean-Philippe Mateta also wants out of the club.

However, Oliver Glasner said that a Mateta exit is not as imminent as suggested externally.

“Very clear: he didn’t hand in a transfer request and we have no bid received right now. That’s the situation right now.

“He will play on Sunday.” – Oliver Glasner on Jean-Philippe Mateta

BOURNEMOUTH

Marcus Tavernier (hamstring) has joined the injury list after pulling up midway through the Gameweek 22 clash with Brighton. He’ll miss the visit of Liverpool this Saturday but there is no timeline on his recovery just yet, with Iraola saying only that it’ll be “some time”.

“It’s a hamstring injury. Straight away he felt it, it is not the biggest of the injuries but it’s a muscle injury and we’ll see how it evolves. But he will be out for some time.” – Andoni Iraola on Marcus Tavernier

Justin Kluivert (knee), David Brooks (ankle), Julio Soler (unspecified), Tyler Adams (knee), Ben Gannon-Doak (hamstring) and Will Dennis (ankle) are also on the sidelines.

“Brooks is not ready for this one. He’s not ready for this one. I hope he’s not out for a lot more time but when it’s the ankle, it’s a matter of managing the pain and he will tell us. Whenever he feels comfortable, he will be again with us.” – Andoni Iraola

However, Enes Unal (muscle) could train today and potentially be involved in the matchday squad.

“The only one from the players that were injured who could have a chance is Enes. Enes wants to train today but I’m not sure if he is going to be available or not.” – Andoni Iraola

New boy Alex Toth is available for selection.

“Yes I think [there’s a chance he could start]. He comes in a good physical condition and he’s available. He’s ready for whatever we consider. Obviously, he has been here just one or two days so it’s difficult for him to understand everything we want to do, but we will not have time for tomorrow to explain him everything. Sometimes in these situations you have to just see what he has and I hope he does well.” – Andoni Iraola on Alex Toth

“We normally play with three players in the middle, sometimes two, sometimes three. But in any of the three positions, probably, ideally he’s a number eight. We consider, I call six, eight, ten, he’s more a number eight. But when you are a number eight, you have to sometimes defend as a six and attack as a number ten. So, I think he is ready to adapt to any of the three positions. But obviously once we have the player, we see him playing, we see him training, probably we will find, or we will try at least to find, his best position.” – Andoni Iraola on Alex Toth’s ideal position

EVERTON

David Moyes confirmed that Jack Grealish has suffered a foot stress fracture but didn’t provide a timeline on the loanee’s recovery.

Michael Keane is also still unavailable: he serves game three of a three-match ban.

In better news, Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring), Carlos Alcaraz (unspecified) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (hamstring) are back in training.

“Kiernan is just back in. Charly Alcaraz is back in training. Obviously, Jarrad is just back in training, as well. They’re certainly getting much closer to it, that’s for sure.” – David Moyes

Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye are back from the Africa Cup of Nations, too.

“They only walked in the building about half an hour ago. I’ve not had the chance to greet them and congratulate them.

“They’re being assessed by the fitness team and the medical team.” – David Moyes on Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye

Tim Iroegbunam (knock) was the only other name on the injury list in Gameweek 22.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Michael Carrick said “everyone came through the [Manchester City] game really well”, so there are no new worries for Gameweek 23.

Matthijs de Ligt (back) will remain out for United this weekend, however.

“He had a bit of setback initially before I arrived, I think, only small. Not so much a setback but it was just a little bit slower that we had hoped. He’s certainly getting closer and hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so, without putting an exact time [on it], he will be back and around it.” – Michael Carrick on Matthijs de Ligt

Joshua Zirkzee is also sidelined. The player himself said last weekend he would be out for a fortnight.

Noussair Mazraoui should be available after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, while Shea Lacey is back from a one-match ban after being sent off in the FA Cup third round.

Away from team news, Carrick discussed his attacking options after leaving Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha out last Saturday.

“It’s just variety in terms of the strengths in some ways. I think, Bryan [Mbeumo], I gave him a bit of a free role in many ways in a partnership with Bruno [Fernandes] last week, to drift and to fill different spaces. Ben [Sesko] is very good at playing on the last line and runs in behind and I think we’ve seen that in recent weeks, he’s done great to get his goal so he’s in a good place. Josh [Zirkzee] can do a little bit of both, he drifts and plays in the hole, plays into feet and links. He’s very good at bringing other people into play so it’s just different styles. Certain games will have different styles, it’s great to have that flexibility, for sure. Matheus [Cunha] came on through the middle and made a big difference for us in terms of carrying the game into the later stages and creating the second goal, so we’ve got good options through there and we just felt, last week, that was the way to go and, thankfully, it paid off for us.” – Michael Carrick

ASTON VILLA

Boubacar Kamara (knee), Ross Barkley (knee) and John McGinn (knee) won’t be involved on Tyneside this Sunday.

But Unai Emery didn’t say whether his other injury doubts, including new boy Alysson (unspecified) and Emi Martínez (unspecified), would return.

Martinez, who has been struggling with a recurrent calf issue of late, was not be present in Turkey for the win over Fenerbache.

“Barkley is training individually, but close to being with the group, maybe next week. Those three players (Barkley, McGinn, Kamara), they are not available for Sunday. Tomorrow we will see, other players, how they are.” – Unai Emery

Amadou Onana (muscle) and Jadon Sancho (illness) were back in the Villa squad ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash.

Leon Bailey, returning from a loan spell at Roma, will also be involved at St James’ Park.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that Maxim De Cuyper is back in contention after illness forced his absence in Gameweek 22.

Albion also have no new concerns.

“[De Cuyper] will be back. I think in general, we survived now this this phase with a lot of players who were sick and ill, and I hope now that we get more in a stable phase. Overall, it seems to be quite good regarding the availability.

“Nothing [new].” – Fabian Hurzeler

Mats Wieffer remains out with a toe injury.

Hurzeler added that some of his players aren’t able to play 90 minutes at present, with Yankuba Minteh – who had “a small issue” – among them.

“In the moment, some players are not able to start the game. So, they have to be quite limited regarding the game minutes.

“[Minteh is], for example, one player who we need to manage. So, we don’t know if he’s able to start or not start. He came back after a small issue. So, he’s definitely someone we need to manage at the moment.” – Fabian Hurzeler

After his stunner last weekend, budget FPL forward Charalampos Kostoulas is pushing for a start – although his manager did describe him as “backup” twice in Friday’s presser.

“He’s definitely pushing [for a start] by performance. So, that’s for sure, but in the end, we still have Danny Welbeck there as well. Therefore, it’s always a tough decision, but definitely like I just mentioned, it’s helpful to have a good backup like him for Danny Welbeck in this squad.” – Fabian Hurzeler on ‘Babis’ Kostoulas

Adam Webster (knee) and Stefanos Tzimas (knee) are on the longer-term injury list, while Solly March (knee) is slowly working his way back from his own lengthy lay-off.

FULHAM

Marco Silva said Sasa Lukic could be out for 4-5 weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Leeds United last weekend.

Emile Smith Rowe also came off in the match but Silva attributed his substitution to “fatigue” and the midfielder “is in contention”.

Rodrigo Muniz (hamstring) and Kenny Tete (hamstring) were back on the grass this week. Sean Dyche didn’t really give much indication whether either player would be back for the Brentford game.

“We are hopeful it settles down. He’s got a bang on the hip.
